Gunteera gazed at her sleeping dragonet for another moment before heading off for the Common Room for a bit of personal time. Lulith was quite the demanding little one, but she wouldn't trade her for all of Pern. She'd finally Impressed and nothing was going to change that.
Arriving in the Common Room, she saw another weyrling already there and smiled, heading her way and taking a seat in the nearest chair, Hope flitting along behind her and taking a perch on the chair's back once her Pet had sat. "Hey, how's it going so far?" Gunteera asked politely, hoping for some conversation.
<Gunteera <> Hope>
Marna turned at the sound of a feminine voice behind her and her eyes
lit up once she saw who it was. "Gunteera hey! Congradulations again on
your Impression. Your dragon is beautiful." She smiled shyly for a
moment before continuing. "I'm fine, by the way, how are you? How're you
settling in? I know it's almost impossible to get Walweth to be quiet
anytime he's not eating or sleeping."
<Marna>
Gunteera smiled as she listened to her fellow Weyrling, then spoke in answer. "Thank you. Lulith would love to hear that. Yours is handsome, too. Was he what you'd wanted? I hadn't quite expected a gold, but I guess she's why I was passed up so many times maybe?" She thought about the settling bit a moment before continuing, "I'm doing well and I'm pretty comfortable around here. Except when Lulith wants to be majorly bossy." She rolled her eyes, but smiled. "She's just mainly bossy, but I think I'll manage with her."
<Gunteera>
Marna listened to her friend speak. "I think you'll do great as a
goldrider, and I know the reason you had to wait was because Lulith was
here waiting on you to find her. She'll be huge once she's grown, maybe
bigger than her Mother. As for Walweth, truthfully, I wanted a green,
but he's perfect and I wouldn't trade him for anything. I'm just worried
because I've never heard of a girl Impressing a blue dragon before and
there were two of us in the group that did. I'm just nervous I'll make a
mistake and hurt Walweth and I don't want that. He's my dearest and most
precious person." She smiled faintly at her words. "I know it sounds
silly to feel that way already, but I do. You know what I mean?"
<Marna>
Gunteera smiled in thought. "Yeah, she was. I'd seen so many dragonets pass me by. Even watched a few Between and I feared Lulith would too when she didn't seem interested in any of us the first time she walked by." She sighed, then turned her full attention to the matter of a girl on a blue. "You know, dragons work in their own special ways. I seen a green dragonet Impress a boy that obviously seemed partial to girls. Well, turned out, he was actually a girl and the faked interest in girls kept her hidden until her green didn't give her an honorific. And my father knew a lady bluerider. Said she was quite the entertaining one, but she passed away a few turns back. I think it was due to a threadwound or something. So you and Sherly aren't the only ones riding blues. Are you worried more about when he's old enough to chase?" she asked at the end. Maybe Marna only fancied guys and that's why she was worried?
<Gunteera>
Marna nodded solemnly at the question. "Yeah, that's mostly what worries
me. After all, I only like boys and blues chase greens who Impress boys
and girls. I may have to figure out how to keep him grounded a lot of
the time and I don't want that. It's not fair to him, you know. Not that
you have to worry about things like that. You're a goldrider." It wasn't
an accusation, just a simple fact.
<Marna>
Gunteera smiled as she listened, a serious smile, one that showed her attentiveness to the subject while keeping the mood from dipping unfavorably. "I know where you're coming from. I might not have to worry because very rarely does anyone but a bronze catch a gold, but in your case, if I were there." She paused to think of anything to back her talk. "I've heard it's hard to control a dragon the first few times he chases or she rises, so that could be rough, I'm sure, but after they get through those first few times, I've heard they start listening to their riders. With any luck, and I'm sure you'll have it, Walweth may not catch his first few chases and by then, you'll be able to sway him more to only really try for greens with guys as Theirs." She thought about the words she just said and was a bit uncertain of their clarity. They made sense to her. "Am I jumping too quickly at explanations?" she asked as a precaution.
<Gunteera>
Marna shook her head. "No, you make plenty of sense. I guess I'm just
worried about doing the wrong thing for Walweth. Since our emotions
affect our dragons I don't want this to cause problems for he and I. You
know? Am I making sense?"
<Marna>
Gunteera smiled sympathetically, but in understanding. "Yeah, perfect sense." Then she brightened. "But hey, he's only recently Hatched and so mating stuff's probably out of his head at the moment, right? If you're lucky there, maybe by the time he does start taking an interest in the ladies, point him toward a green with a guy, whether he looks to women and men, or just one or the other. At least it won't be too extremely awkward for you," she suggested. That's what she would do.
<Gunteera>
Marna noded. "You're right, it's to much to worry about right now
anyways. Besides, by the time he's old enough to chase I'll hopefully
have a better handle on this dragonrider stuff. Thanks Gunteera, you've
been a big help." She shook her head. "I'll be you don't worry about
things like this huh?"
<Marna>
Gunteera smiled, glad that she could help ease her fellow rider's mind a little. It always felt good to see someone relax a bit more. "You will, I'm sure of it. And it's no big deal. I just like to see people relax more." She shrugged at the other girl's inquiry. "I worry. I just don't let myself linger on it too much. The answer will come when it's most needed," she answered with a smile.
