Britten Weyr
What would happen if Fax had won the duel with F'lar? What if this led to civil war between Weyrs and Holds, until war and Thread have all but destroyed the Northern Continent?
Moonbow Weyr was created by a group of weyrlings who had escaped the North Continent and Flax's wrath, stealing the Queen egg to save it from being smashed. Soon, refugees find their way south, and new Holds sprung up surrounding the new Weyr. While the Southern Continent is somewhat protected by grubs, plant life is still vulnerable to Thread and must be protected. But there are too few candidates to Stand, and many hatchlings die unImpressed. For generations, Moonbow Weyr and its beholden Holds struggle to survive in such harsh conditions. Close to the end of the Ninth Pass, nearly a whole weyrling class is lost in a Betweening accident, including Lyrensa and Gold Alexith.
Over two hundred turns later, the lost weyrling class reappears, having accidentally betweened forward in time with faulty directions. One turn later, a sickness takes hold at Moonset Hold, spreading out swiftly and fatally. Humans, dragons, and firelizards alike are affected by the disease, and no cure can be found. Quarantines are set at the affected Holds, and the Timelings are sent, along with the few unaffected dragons and riders, to form a new Weyr West of Moonbow, which they call Britten, with Lyrensa as Weyrwoman.
But Lyrensa's troubles aren't over yet. Five turns after Britten is founded, Golds Alexith and Telemaith Rise simultaneously, and the two Queens battle fiercely. Alexith disappears between, making Sedine Weyrwoman and Telemaith the new Senior Queen. Septoth catches Telemaith, making H'del the new Weyrleader. The pair rule fairly, though they are less popular than Lyrensa had been. But three turns later, Alexith reappears over the Weyr, badly injured from the fight. As she makes her recovery, weyrfolk wonder who is now to be Weyrwoman? The decision is made when Alexith again Rises to mate, and chooses Septoth. Telemaith and Sedine are sent to form Roush Weyr with half of Britten's current population following her, and Lyrensa and H'del staying to lead Britten.
Alexith's latest clutch has hatched, producing 26 healthy hatchlings, including one tiny, strange Amethyst dragon. And soon there will be a clutch at Roush Weyr. Do you have what it takes to fight Thread when wings are barely at fighting strength, when Cloudlung can barely be contained in quarantined holds?
