Month 2:
V'nel sat quietly at his new desk and office. It still felt strange to him to be Weyrleader and he was having a hard time getting used to everything. He nervously tapped his fingers on the desk as he waited. He had talked to Shii and they had both agreed that he needed to find a second for his wing. The problem...he didn't know many of the riders. So he didn't know who would be better for the job.
Kyrith laid on his ledge with Shuteth. }:Relax, Mine,:{ he said. }:You will do fine.:{
V'nel smiled a little, but still worried. He just wanted to get through the interviews.
V'nel<>Kyrith
V'zee headed for the Weyrleader's office, Vikki darting ahead, then returning briefly to make sure his Pet was still following him. He was leading, of course. The bronzerider had been told through Kyanath that he had been requested. What for, he wasn't sure and honestly didn't really care. It was probably just some 'get to know my riders' deal. After all, he hadn't done anything wrong yet that he was aware of. Icy eyes enjoying the darkness of the tunnel system, he almost passed up the office as his sense of adventure nearly took him further in. With a sigh, he knocked on the door. He had the respect of others' privacy and wasn't one to just barge right in and have a seat and make himself comfortable. No, he was far from that. Very far.
V'zee<>Vikki
V'nel almost found himself pacing as he waited for V'zee to show up. The bronzer definitely wasn't use to his position. And it didn't help that he didn't know any of the riders. It had been awkward enough when he had woke up beside Shii. Vina watched her friend cursiously, wondering why her Pet was so uptight. The little green cheeped when V'zee knocked. "Come in!" V'nel called, sitting straighter behind his desk. This was it. Would things go okay?
V'nel<>Vina
V'zee opened the door, Vikki darting in ahead of him, flitting near the floor. Was there something worth chasing in here? The bronzerider smiled slightly. "Do excuse Vikki. He's a explorer," he apologized before closing the door behind him. "Ya' wanted to see me, sir?" he asked, remaining where he stood as icy eyes took in the room briefly.
V'zee<>Vikki
Vina chirped happily at the new flit. The little green always loved meeting new ones. V'nel waved V'zee's apology away as he tried to calm his nerves. "It's quite alright," he smiled. "Vina is the same way. Please, have a seat." Now the Weyrleader wasn't quite sure what to do. He was kind of just winging it. He just hoped V'zee couldn't tell.
V'nel<>Vina
After a moment's questioning/ studious look at the other bronzerider, V'zee complied and moved to a chair, his limp barely noticeable at the moment. Sitting down, he looked across the desk at V'nel and smiled ingreeting. "What about?" he asked, honestly curious.
V'zee
V'nel smiled in relief when V'zee sat down. At least things were going okay so far. The bronzer was caught off guard by V'zee's question, not quite sure how to answer. Was he talking about Vina or asking why he was there? V'nel wasn't sure. "I'm trying to get to know the riders here at Angel's Cove," V'nel said, hoping he was answering the right question.
V'nel
V'zee nodded, icy gaze fixed on his Weyrleader in an unavoidable intimidating way. He couldn't help it his eyes were so odd a color. "So ya' know who ta watch out fer, eh?" he returned.
V'zee
V'nel returned V'zee's gaze. The lighting in his office made his eyes shine more silver then blue, but he didn't know that. The Weyrleader shook his head. "No, that's not the reason. I trust all my riders. But I want to know them before they're expected to trust me as their Weyrleader and also in their wing."
V'nel
V'zee smirked at V'nel's response, paying brief, multitaskal attention to his firelizard who had returned to his Pet's chair with a crawlie in his mouth, an obvious present. Taking the 'gift' without a flinch and without taking his attention from V'nel, V'zee replied, "Good reason. I see Shuteth chose well, then."
V'zee<>Vikki
V'nel tried not to frown. He could see it might be difficult dealing with this bronze rider. But he was also glad to see that V'zee didn't just take whatever he said as rule because he was Weyrleader. He would rather the riders had an opinion. Vina watched Vikki curiously. The little green always liked meeting new ones. V'nel shrugged a little. "We shall see," he answered.
V'nel<>Vina
V'zee shook his head with a chuckle. "Lighten up some, sir," he said in all seriousness. "I've seen all kinda leadership an' I fin' 'e more relaxed leaders're 'e ones 'at lead the bes'. Ya' look plenty young 'nough an' 'is is a new Weyr. Make yer own rules an' use some a the old." He was only giving advice. He wanted to be able to stay at this Weyr. He was pretty sure that his bronze was tired of changing Weyrs so often.
V'zee
V'nel was caught off guard by V'zee's laughter. He hadn't expected such a thing from this bronze rider. The Weyrleader actually smiled, glad to see that he didn't have to be the tough person at the moment. "Well, I'd say you're definitely right about being relaxed. As for being young," here V'nel rolled his eyes. "That's the part that worries me," he admitted. He wasn't sure why, but it seemed like the right thing to do." V'nel tapped his chin thoughtfully. "Hmm, I think I may just take that advice, V'zee. Thank you kindly."
V'nel
"Welcome," the bronzerider replied. "Anythin' else ya'd want some insight on?" he asked. He was certain that V'nel would have done his homework and took a gander at the records of his riders. He didn't know if he was the only one that had bounced around from Weyr to Weyr, but he was definitely one to watch should his temper be tripped which he hoped would not happen for a VERY long time.
V'zee
The Weyrleader tapped his fingers in thought as Vina happily watched Vikki. V'nel had read V'zee's file, but he believed in second chances. Maybe V'zee had changed or he may have had good reasons for his fights. "One more question if you don't mind, V'zee," he said, finally making up his mind. "If you had to take command of a wing, how would you handle it?"
V'nel<>Vina
V'zee just sat there a moment, icy eyes studying the Weyrleader. So this is why he'd asked to meet with him. Command a wing? Him? No one had ever given him even the inkling of a thought toward that. They'd just classified him as one of the hot tempered bronzeriders that only did well at a lower rank. "Well, sir," he said finally, a bit confused. "I don' honestly know. Never been allowed in 'at kinda position. I mean I got a temper, but I don't fight half as much as I did before. Ky's put me in my place a few times when my temper gets heated. I jus'... Why?" He was honestly unable to explain an answer to such a question. Maybe a reason behind the question would help him out?
V'zee
V'nel waited quietly for an answer. He smiled inwardly when it seemed that V'zee wasn't able to answer. And he had been truthful about his temper. Which v'nel was glad to hear. Of course, if anyone knew himself he could have a pretty bad temper as well. V'nel smiled. "I know the feeling," he said. "I'd never been a wingleader either and now I'm Weyrleader, so I'm still learning to cope. But I would like to have someone as my wing second that I could count on. Someone who doesn't mind taking orders, but will also stand up to me if I'm making an awful mistake." He studied V'zee, his eyes glittering silver. "Would you be up to a task like that, V'zee?"
V'nel
V'zee grinned at the Weyrleader's comment. "Oh, I'd be plenty up to it, sir. I'm no stranger to speakin' my mind," he answered with amusement. "But don't be singlin' me out 'cause I'm the only other bronzerider here. I know it ain't traditional, but do consider other riders. I might not be yer best choice," he said, hoping to give the other riders that probably deserved the position better a chance.
V'zee
V'nel shook his head. "I haven't made any decisions yet," he assured the other bronzer. "I wouldn't be against a brown rider as a second. That's what these interviews are for actually. I just wanted to make sure you even thought you were up to the task." He laughed out loud, showing how young he really was. Vina looked back at him curiosly. "I can see that, V'zee," he smiled. "And I'm glad. I'm not perfect after all. And I know some riders who wouldn't say antyhing cause I'm the Weyrleader."
v'nel
V'zee nodded, happy that he wasn't just being asked due to being the only other ranked dragon aside from Shuteth. That would just be poor judgement. At V'nel's last comment, he couldn't help a grin. "Ya' can bet Faranth I'd speak up, regardless of rank," he commented. "An' yes, I think I could manage a wing if I had to," he added.
V'zee
V'nel smiled. He was glad to see that V'zee didn't seem offended that he was going to talk to the other riders as well. Actually, he had been impressed the other bronzer had suggested it himself. The Weyrleader chuckled. "Good. I don't need someone who won't speak up. I'm new at this, so I can use all the help I can get." V'nel nodded. "I have no doubt now that you would be able to handle a wing."
V'nel
V'zee smiled. "Thanks, sir," he said at the compliment. Being told that he COULD handle a wing made him a bit happier. No one had told him that, yet. And bronze dragons were traditionally meant to lead wings, so Kyanath would feel better as well. {{That's wonderful that we have a chance.}} the bronze said, having been listening in on His's conversation. The bronze liked to know everything and hearing that he had a possible position made him all the happier, too. The rider chuckled and said to V'nel, "Kyanath says thanks for the possible opportunity. "
v'zee<>Kyanath
V'nel inclined his head. "You're quite welcome, V'zee." he leaned back in his chair a little. He had actually started to relax during the interview. }:See?:{ Kyrith said almost smugly. };That wasn't so hard. Everyone here is nice.:[ V'nel rolled his eyes, but then turned his attention back to V'zee. "Well, he is quite welcome," V'nel smiled.
V'nel<>Kyrith
V'zee smiled and nodded in silent thanks to both welcomes. After a moment's thought, he continued. "Is there anythin' else to address 'ere?" he inquired curiously.
V'zee
The Weyrleader slowly shook his head. "Not really. I just wanted to get a chance to talk to the riders here and I thought this was a good start." He studied V'zee. "Unless you have any questions or concerns. I'm all ears. And you can talk to me at any time. No matter what."
V'nel
The bronzerider nodded with a smile. "Nope. Nothin' else at the moment. I won't keep ya' no longer 'an needed," he answered. He would probably fit in quite well here. The Weyr would definitely take shape soon and become a solid Weyr, he was certain.
V'zee
V'nel nodded with a smile. "Well, it's been a pleasure meeting you V'zee. I hope the rest of the interviews go as well." The Weyrleader stood up to shake the other bronzer's hand. So far, the interviews had started off good. Maybe things wouldn't be as bad as he had thought.
V'nel
