Month 6:
Keistra was in charge of yet another lesson. Not that the greenrider
minded but it was just odd. At least it gave her the chance to get more
comfortable in her job as Assistant Weyrling Master. This lesson was
just as important as the last one she'd taught and she hoped for a good
outcome.
Payath sat nearby watching the sun dance across the waves of the lake.
She knew the weyrlings would come and as always, she announced the
start of the lesson. **Weyrlings come! Another lesson is starting!**
Again it was Marna and S'et with Walweth and Realerth that arrived
first. The two blues seemed to be ignoring each other but their
lifemates were talking adamently.
<Keistra <> Payath <> Marna <> S'et <> Walweth <> Realerth>
J'dan and C'lin arrived just after Marna and S'et. Seerowth and Claudith sat beside each other.
K'ryn came a little later. He had had a hard time getting Optith to leave the barracks until everyone else was out.
Laliy had basically had to drag Hebertinth to the Weyr Lake. The little green didn't like the lessons at all. And she liked to try to make it miserable for Laliy. The girl did her best to keep her green happy.
Kiyoni and Elliwodth arrived a short time later. Elliwodth's green hide was shining from all the care and little green pranced around to show it off. She loved attention and lessons meant attention. At least in her opinion.
<Weyrlings <> Dragonets>
Sherly arrived shortly after the rest Reedith leading the way excited about having another lesson and a chance to gain more info. Niradene and Cameith queitly came Cameith sticking very close to Niradene as they found a spot.
<Sherly <> Reedith <> Niradene <> Cameith>
Keistra smiled at the weyrlings. "Alright folks, todays lesson is about
group communication and how to make riding straps. Unlike single
communication with just your dragon and yourself, you must be willing to
allow your dragon to bespeak other dragons so you can act like a single
unit in a wing. So then...any volunteers to go first? Payath and I will
give you the phrase to pass on and we'll go from there. After we've
finished with this exercise, I'll show you how to check the strength of
your riding straps. Your dragons are to young for them now, but Payath
has agreed to let you all tug at hers. You must be gentle though, tug to
hard and the straps get strained. Pull to lightly and you risk getting
bad straps and falling off in the middle of flight."
Payath warbled warmly and watched the littles interacting. She'd wait
for permission before bespeaking one of them for the lesson.
<Keistra <> Payath>
C'lin grinned at his friends before looking down at Seerowth. }:It sounds like fun,:{ the brown answered before C'lin even had to ask.
"Seerowth and I will go first if you like," C'lin volunteered.
J'dan chuckled. "Doesn't surprise me," he whispered to G'tee. C'lin just smiled at his friend. He knew they would pick on him for volunteering.
}:We should volunteer next time,:{ Optith told K'ryn.
**We will, brother,** K'ryn promised.
Elliwodth studied her clutchmates. }:We will get to talk to the other dragons?:{ she asked curiously. };Will I have pretty straps? I don't want to look ugly.:{
Kiyoni chuckled. **You will look lovely, Ell.**
<Weyrlings <> Dragonets>
Reedith was going to volunteer first but one of his brothers got there before him **Ah well this is good information none the less mine, make sure you take lots of notes now the more we know the better it will be for us** he stated Sherly smiled and resisted laughing knowing her blue was serious.
Cameith was dismayed **Others dragons are going to talk to me mine, do they have to? will they want to be my friend?** she asked quietly Niradene smiled down at her green ***Yes they have to cam its part of the exercise and i am sure they will want to be your friend*** she reassured her not so little green.
<Reedith <> Sherly <> Cameith <> Niradene>
Keistra nodded in approval. "Alright then. C'lin and Seerowth step
forward please. We'll try the easier of the two lessons first. I'm going
to ask Payath to speak with Seerowth and then he'll give the message to
you. Are both of you okay with this?"
Payath crooned in reasurance at the pair, hoping they'd cooperate.
<Keistra <> Payath>
C'lin and Seerowth stepped forward. The little brown stood patiently beside his Chosen. Both were wondering what the lesson was going to entail. They both nodded. "Okay," C'lin answered for both of them.
<C'lin <> Seerowth>
Annalyra sighed as she arrived to the little gathering as the last of the Weyrlings had gotten there. Precisith towering behind her in annoyance. At a firm mental command, the big green stopped a short distance away as Hers continued her trek to somewhere near Keistra, but not taking over.
--*
Lulith sat daintily, rather annoyed that she had to come listen to someone again! But what she didn't pay attention to, Hers did which helped at least a little. Gunteera hadn't been quick enough to volunteer with her bossy little dragon, but she knew their turn would come if she understood Keistra right.
--*
G'tee grinned at J'dan's comment, Irohidth right next to him as always, glaring at anyone to dare them to try anything. T'raren stood next to his brother, Eteinth right behind him with his big head resting on His' shoulder, watching Payath closely for some reason.
--*
K'lar, M'kan, and Tia'ar were together as usual, their three dragons nearby without problems, Zyurth nosing at something on His' clothing in curiosity, Mihelith being calm and politely quiet, Visageth asking a question a second. M'kan missed Keistra's question of who was to go first and so had his hand up after C'lin's, Tia'ar having told him she'd wanted a volunteer. Oh, well. Next time, maybe.
--*
K'sid and L'ney stood near each other, both quiet and listening. Starkith had his eyes on Lulith for quite a while and Jonnth was looking grumpy and irritated that he HAD to be there.
--*
Rayra stood with Dawnuth touching her but not hiding half as much as she had been. She was slowly getting used to being among the others and had even carried on a brief conversation with one of her brown brothers a few days back.
<Annalyra <> Precisth <> Weyrlings <> Dragonets>
Keistra nodded to the pair. "Alright then, I'm going to get Payath to
give Seerowth a message and an image. What he has to do is then give the
message and image to you and then to another dragonet and that dragonet
will give the message to his rider who has to give it back to Payath
who'll give it to me. Confusing? Lets try this. Payath will give the
message to Seerowth, he'll give it to you then you direct him to give it
to Precisith over there. Then she gives it to Payath who'll give it
back to me. If I get the same image and message back as I started with,
then you've done it correctly. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, that's
how we learn. When you're ready, I'll start." She paused to wait for
conformation from the pair before starting. This exercise was harder
than it looked and many weyrlings had a hard time with it, she knew she
did when she and Payath tried it.
<Keistra <> Payath>
Reedith raptly watched the deomnstration **Ah so that is what is supposed to happen we could easily do that mine and better too i'll wager, i wonder if we will get a chance** Sherly grinned ruefully and stroked her dragon ***we will**
--*
Cameith was watching carefully **i hope we can pull this off or else they will laugh at us** Niradene fondly gazed at her green ***You'll be fine i promise no one will laugh Cam*** she reassured her quiet, gentle green as she gazed at the other weyrlings
<Reedith <> Sherly <> Cameith <> Niradene>
C'lin listened quietly to Keistra's instructions. He frowned a little, knowing it wasn't going to be easy, but he was up for the challenge. He looked down at his brown. **Do you understand, brother?**
The brown thought for a minute. }:Payath gives me a picture, then I have to give to same picture to you and Precisith?:{ Seerowth repeated.
C'lin nodded with a smile. "We're ready to try," he said to Keistra.
<C'lin <> Seerowth>
Keistra nodded. "Alright then. After them, if anyone else would like to
try it, feel free to speak up." She turned to Payath. 'Here's the image
for them, darling.'
The green seemed to nod then projected at the little brown. **Here is
the message little one. Dragons fly high in the sky when thread
threatens.** The green then sent the image of many different color
dragons flying through the air after clumps of silver thread. The image
was clear and strong and the green waited for the little brown to get it
before continuing. **If you've got it, give the message to Yours, the
both image and message to Precisith.**
<Keistra <> Payath>
Annalyra listened as Keistra spoke and approved of such, although she would just start picking a pair out of the group once they quit volunteering. But that was just her idea on the matter. Precisith stood by quietly, awaiting the little brown's image in order to relay it back to Payath for confirmation of the message.
<Annalyra <> Precisith>
Seerowth listened closely to Payath's message. He didn't want to mess any of it up. The brown seemed to scrunch his face as he tried to remember it. }:I think I got it,:[ he said to Payath. The little brown then proceeded to relay the message to C'lin and Precisith. He got the image of the dragons fighting thread with no problem. The words on the other hand he had trouble with. }:Dragons fly when thread threatens,:{ Seerowth said, not sure if he had gotten that one right or not.
<Seerowth <> C'lin>
Again?!! Or`n couldn't believe this, late again?! And this time it
wasn't Velina and Manxith's fault...Tohanath had gotten her head stuck,
quite literally, between a rock and a hard place following after Yinmin
as she shot after a dragonfly. Velina had been on the way to their next
Weyrling Lesson when she saw Or`n panicking, trying to remove the
little green's head before she snapped her neck in not only her own but
her weyrling's panic. When they'd finally gotten the green's head
unstuck he wouldn't let her go and for quite some time comforted her
before he would even leave her side.
They didn't rush down to their lesson this time and once they'd arrived
Or`n bowed more in embarassment and shame then anything. "I'm sorry for
being so late," he said as Tohanath cuddled against his side to comfort
him. "I was not watching Tohanath and she...she was in trouble, Velina
and her own Lifemate are only late because of me." Velina sighed and
walked up to Or`n's side and rubbed his back soothingly.
<Or'n <> Tohanath <> Velina <> Manxith>
Annalyra studied the two late comers for a few moments, noting the little green's demeanor and her rider's words. Trouble? Allowing Keistra to continue with the lesson since only her dragon was involved right at the moment, she waved the pair over to the side with her. "What sort of trouble?" she asked in a neutral tone, looking between the both of them for their answers. The last time had been mischief that they were trying to sort out. Now it was trouble?
<Annalyra>
Or`n flushed at his carelessness as he looked up at Annalyra. "I...I was getting ready for lessons when Yinmin flew by after a bug of some kind. Tohanath took off after her and my flit squeezed between two rocks...Tohanath got her head stuck and couldn't get out, she was crying so much I didn't know what to do," he said, his voice chocking up a bit. Clearing his throat he continued. Velina was just coming by and she helped calm me down while Manxith calmed Tohanath and we finally got her head out, she wasn't hurt but...but she was thratshing around so much I was sure she'd...she' d..." Tohanath wailed softly as she pressed her angular head against Or`n's stomach, feeling his worry for her sweeping through her mind.
<Or'n <> Tohanath>
Annalyra kept a sigh and a comment to herself. It looked like an emotions lesson was due. She'd actually do that with each of the Weyrlings one on one. It was easier to get the point across on such a matter. "First things first, Or'n, you need to calm down. Get your feelings more toward calmness. Tohanath can sense every emotion you go through and it affects her sometimes worse than it does you. Thanks to Velina and Manxith, you were able to calm her down enough to get her free, but they may not always be along. There may be times when you're alone and have to calm your dragon by yourself. Am I clear enough for the time being?" she explained calmly, looking to both the dragonet and the rider as she had spoken.
<Annalyra>
Or`n looked up in surprise...his emotions affected his Own more then it did himself? He looked down at Tohanath and saw the way she was fidgetting and butting her head against his belly, her body almost trembling. Taking a deep breath he calmed his mind and quickly rubbed the forming tears out of his eyes. "It's ok, Tohanath...I' m sorry I got so upset, but it's ok now..." he said softly caressing her angular head. Slowly, the little green began to calm and pressed her head into Or`n's belly crooning as her min was allowed to relax as her Own's mind relaxed. Turning his eyes back to Annalyra he smiled softly and nodded. "Thank you...I...I didn't realize my fear for her would affect ehr so badly.
Velina watched the pair, noting what Annalyra was saying and thought...perhaps that's why Manxith was so moody...because of her. Velina was still keeping parts of her mind away from the dragonet, afraid she'd become upset...but perhaps that was causing more harm then good...she'd have to ask about it later.
<Or'n <> Tohanath <> Velina>
Annalyra smiled as she watched the green relax and nodded to Or'n. "We'll talk more later to help you understand your connection with her better. For now, the two of you need to join the others in our lesson," she said, looking to Velina as well. "Payath is giving your dragonets an image which they'll need to relay to their riders as well as Precisith who will then give it back to Payath to tell us if it had been passed along correctly. Now keep your minds calm and comforting and we'll speak more later," she told them in dismissal, satisfied that the immediate problem had been settled. An upset dragonet could affect the whole class easily.
<Annalyra>
Both Or`n and Velina nodded, Or`n thanking his teacher once more before they moved over to join the others. Or`n wasn't quite sure what to do, but when he explained the exercise to Tohanath she seemed to know exactly what was going on and tried to take in the image that Payath was sending her. Manxith was no better and seemed to be squinting at Payath...as if doing that would help he image become clearer.
<Or'n <> Velina <> Tohanath <> Manxith>
Payath gave the message back to Keistra who smiled at the brown pair.
"That was pretty good for your first try. It was a little off, but the
image was clear. Now then, lets take it up a step shall we. I'll get
Payath to repeat the message to you again, then you can send it to one
other of your fellow weyrlings then they must send it to Precisith to
send back to Payath. Make since?" She turned to Or'n and Tohanath. "How
about you two help Seerowth out?"
Payath nodded. **Yes, lets try again. Here's the message, Dragons fly
high in the sky when thread threatens. You know the image already
Seerowth, just send it to Tohanath. Tell me if either of you have
trouble.**
<Payath <> Keistra>
Seerowth sat up a little straighter. He was happy he had done a good job. C'lin smiled lovingly at his dragonet. He was glad Seerowth liked to learn. "I think so," C'lin answered. "So he just sends it to another weyling like he had done with Precisith."
Seerowth bobbed his head. }:I can do that.:{ The little brown concentrated on Payath's words, wanting to get it right this time. Once he thought he had it he sent it to Tohanath. }:Dragons fly high in the sky when thread threatens,:[ he managed to get out, but his image wasn't quite as clear this time because he had been concentrating on gettting the words right.
<Seerowth <> C'lin>
Or`n turned to Annalyra and nodded as he and Tohanath stepped forward. He was ok with receiving messages from his Own...but would she be able to understand another dragonet so early...words and pictures. Tohanath was immediately interested and thingyed her head as something wiggled into her mind. thingying her head in the other direction it looked like she was frowning, the picture was a bit fuzzy but she cound kinda guess what it was supposed to look like and wasn't sure if she was supposed to send the same image or one she though it was. ((Mine...do I send what I have or one I think it is...it's not all the way clear,)) she asked looking up at her Own and sending him the image. Or`n had absolutely no idea and turned to Annalyra. "Um...Tohanath wants to know if she sends what Seerowth sent or what she thinks she said it's not all the way clear."
<Or'n <> Tohanath>
Annalyra smiled at Or'n's inquire. "This lesson is about communication between us all. Have her give Precisith the message she received and what she thinks it should be. She may be right at what she thinks is the correct message or she may be wrong. There's only one way to find out," she answered, liking how things were going with this lesson.
<Annalyra>
Or`n nodded before lookigg down at Tohanath. "Go ahead," he coaxed gently. Tohanath was still a bit uncertain but crooned softly as she sent Precisith both the message and the image, though the image was still on the fuzzy side. ((Dragons fly high in the sky when thread threatens.))
<Or'n <> Tohanath>
Precisith received the message and image and gave them both to Payath exactly how she had received them. She figured the message to have been the original one and noted the difference between the two. They'd kept it about the same if that was the case.
<Precisith>
Keistra was in charge of yet another lesson. Not that the greenrider

<Annalyra>
<Annalyra>
<Precisith>
