Month 1:
K'rei quietly walked around the Weyr Bowl of Angel's Cove. Himself and Cerith had just arrived at Angel's Cove a day before Shuteth rose, so they hadn't been there long and K'rei wasn't sure what to do.
The young man seemed to walk around in a daze. He was still trying to get use to a new place. Although, he knew that the trasnfer had been a good thing, but it still didn't make things easy on him.
};Find someone to talk to,:{ Cerith suggested from his ledge. };It will make you feel better.:[
**I'll try, brother of my heart,** he answered as he started toward the Dining Cavern.
K'rei<>Cerith
Annalyra was frustrated. It was one of those days where nothing seemed to go right. She'd had a brief moment of artistry that ended in disaster, so she turned to rearranging her weyr which had also turned the wrong corner when she realized that she was missing something. After finally finding the missing piece, she headed for the Dining Cavern to settle her nerves over a hot mug of klah and maybe a piec of sweetbread. Her mood lightened at seeing another rider heading for the cavern and one she didn't know at that. Putting on a smile, she caught up to him, the prospect of meeting someone new making her cheerier by the moment. "Hello, there!" she called in warning as she was coming up to him. No need to scare the poor thing.
Annalyra
K'rei was still deep in thought. It seemed like even being at a new Weyr reminded him of his lost love and son. At least the Weyr was set up different, so that made things a little better. He was so caught up in his own thoughts that he still jumped a little at Annalyra's words. "Oh, hello," he said, slowing his pace to allow her catch up. "I didn't see you there. Sorry about that."
K'rei
Annalyra had seen the brownrider jump and felt a bit sorry for having spooked him. "Oh, it's fine. I'm sorry to have startled you." The greenrider fell into step beside K'rei with a cheery smile. "How long have you been here?" In the prospect of meeting someone new, she had forgotten to give her name first, but it would certainly come along in its own way.
Annalyra
The brown rider shook his head. "It's okay. I just wasn't paying attention. No harm done," he said, smiling a little. He knew Cerith would be happy that he had least found someone to talk to. He slowed his pace a little to let her catch up. "Only a couple days," he said. "I arrived the day before Shuteth rose." He hadn't even noticed that he didn't know her name yet. Of course, he hadn't given his yet either.
K'rei
Annalyra brightened. He was new! "I've been here since shortly after Angel's Cove opened its doors to transfers after that awful plague. Twas a shame, really, but look at it." She turned round as she walked, making a motion with her arm to include the Bowl. "It's growing well, now!" Then she turned back to walking forward again with another smile for the brownrider. "Oh, by the way, I'm Annalyra of Precisith. You can shorten it however you'd like. I don't mind," she introduced herself.
Annalyra
K'rei smiled almost in relief. He had managed to meet someone who had been here a while. That was a plus, considering he didn't know where much was at the Weyr yet. K'rei looked around. "It looks like it's doing well. No Weyr ever wants to see a plague," he agreed. "But I'm glad to see it bounced back." K'rei chuckled as he watched her. She was a very lively green rider and that's what he needed at the moment. Someone to help him forget about his problems. "Well, it is a pleasure to meet you Annalyra. I'm K'rei of Cerith."
K'rei
Annalyra grinned. "Those are both wonderful names. I bet Cerith's just as charming as you are," she said in a not so flirty way, seeing as how that line could easily be flirty. She wasn't here to flirt. Having gotten inside, she went for the breadrolls, finding a piece of her favorite and a fresh hot mug of klah. "I've been needing this. Do you know where most things are at here or would you like a little more of a tour? I've got a bit of free time before I go sort out the Weyrling Barracks. Won't be too long before little ones will grace its presence and I want it looking good for them, not dusty and abandoned."
Annalyra
The brown rider smiled. "Why thank you." He chuckled a little. "Well, I guess you'd have to ask the other dragons about that," he grinned. "But I think he can be." K'rei hadn't taken it as her being flirty. Besides, that was the last thing he needed. He turned back to her. "Actually, I wouldn't mind a tour," he said sheepishly. "I know where my weyr is and the Dining Cavern. That's about it." He smiled at her. "If you want I could help you clean up the barracks. I don't have anywhere to be."
K'rei
Annalyra looked at the brownrider thankfully. "Oh! That would be wonderful! I'd love the help. And yes, I can show you around. Just let me sit down a moment over this klah. It's amazing what a bit of warmth will do to the mind," she said, doing just that and sitting down at a nearby table to sip at her klah. "So what's your specialty?" she asked, meaning his craft, but she might have to explain her words as she sometimes did.
Annalrya
K'rei nodded with a smile. "It's the least I can do, since you offered to show me around. Besides, it will give me a reason to see the barracks and talk with you more." He nodded. "Of course, I'm in no hurry." K'rei sat down across from her. He thought for a minute on her question, then it dawned on him. "Well, I was born as a Trader, but actually became a Harper apprentice," he answered.
K'rei
Annalyra was grateful. Help would be nice because those barracks needed quite the clean. Of course, she wasn't THAT much of a cleaner, but she did like everything to look presentable and in order. After a few sips of her klah and K'rei's answer, she smiled at him. "Harpering? What area? I'm more of an artist, being weyrbred and all, but I love to teach the youngsters." Harpering was a VERY good trade, in her opinion. It always required detail and memory and order.
Annalrya
K'rei smiled and leaned back in his chair. He smiled at Annalyra. He was actually looking forward to helping her clean. "An artist, huh?" he smiled. "That sounds interesting. I'm not a good drawer." He shrugged. "I love just about any type of instrument and I'm always up for learning new things."
K'rei
The greenrider smiled. "Yes, I love to draw. i have since I was young." So he liked playing music. That was always good to have around a Weyr. Things can get pretty hectic and a little bit of music turns the mood clean around. "What instruments are your favorite?" She was just plain curious and that was all there was to it.
Annalyra
"wow! You must be really good then," he smiled. K'rei gave her credit. He loved watching people draw, but he had never been able to. Although he could music to just about anything. K'rei thought for a minute. "That's a hard one. I like them all, but probably the gitar and pipes are my favorite."
K'rei
Annalyra shrugged her shoulders with a smile. "It all depends on who you talk to on how good I am. I have my days," she admitted. She wasn't going to say she was great. That was pointless. She wasn't above and beyond everyone else and she wasn't going to act so either unless she absolutely had to. "Oh, you'll have to play sometime. The pipes are so nice to hear. They carry so beautifully, too," she commented.
Annalyra
K'rei chuckled. He was glad to see that she didn't try to act like she was the best. "Trust, you're better then me. I never could get the hang of drawing. My extent is stick figures." The young man nodded. He would use any excuse to play his pipes. "Gladly," he smiled. "I love playing the pipes anytime I can."
K'rei
The greenrider smiled. "I guess I'm a bit better than you, but I won't bore you with any of my drawings right now." She swirled her klah around, having downed about half of it so far. She was already feeling so much better. "That's wonderful. You'll have to grace me with their sounds some day," she told him.
Annalyra
He grinned. "Well, I'm glad to hear that you're better then me," he said teasingly. The brown rider took a second to look around the Dining Cavern. He hadn't been in it much since transferring. "Of course," he smiled. "But only if you let me see a couple of your drawings."
K'rei
Annalyra smiled at the rider's comments. He was rather nice in her opinion. At his bargain, she couldn't help but laugh lightly. "Okay, okay, you win that one. I'll show you some of my works and you can play for me. Sounds like a decent deal to me." Traders. What could you expect? They always liked to bargain.
Annalyra
K'rei grinned impishly. He hadn't always been the best Trader under the sand, but he had managed to weasel some things away from the boys in his caravan. "Good," he said happily. "Then, whenever you would like to hear some music you come find me. I'm always willing to play. Cerith seems to enjoy it, so I play at night a lot when I'm by myself." He wasn't sure why he was telling her that, but he was enjoying the conversation. She seemed nice and Cerith would be mad at him if he didn't try to make some friends.
K'rei
Annalyra chuckled softly. Sounded a bit like company for the night but he hadn't come across like that, so she doubted it. Plus, she wasn't going to just sleep around unless a dragon was involved. "Sounds good to me." She downed the last swallow or two of her klah, then got up. "Shall we proceed on your tour?" she asked with a cheery smile.
Annalyra
K'rei hadn't realized how he had come across. He had only meant that he played a lot in the evening to pass the time. And that was when he actually had some free time. The brown rider nodded. "I would appreciate that. Then maybe I won't get so lost all the time."
K'rei
The greenrider smiled and took her mug to the bins to let the kitchen workers clean it. "Then on we go, K'rei," she said, motioning him along beside her as she headed outside again. Once outside, she helpfully pointed out several key places of the Weyr plus some not so key places on their way to the barracks which were currently open to allow them to air out a bit. There was nothing in them anyway, so it wasn't much of a deal until they were cleaned up. "And this would be the Weyrling Barracks. Dusty aren't they?" she asked, stepping inside and opening a glow basket to walk further in.
Annalyra
K'rei followed Annalyra out of the Dining Cavern. He followed her finger as she pointed out different places and stored them away in his mind. He figured once he got back to his weyr he'd make a little map until he got use to everything. He stepped into the Barracks behind Annalyra and sneezed. "Yes, it is dusty," he agreed, rubbing his nose. "But I'm sure we can fix that. Don't want the weyrlings sleeping in dust."
K'rei
Annalyra nodded with a smile. "Yes, that's exactly why I've decided to clean it up. Especially since those eggs aught to be hatching sometime very soon." She set the glow basket on top of a shelf so that it would illuminate a fair bit more than just being on a table somewhere. "I've acquired some water and brushes and towels. So that neither of us go about sneezing like crazy in a dust cloud," she told the brownrider. "Although I hadn't expected any help today. I've already worn out a Candidate or two down in the archives."
Annalyra
"Well, it was a very good idea," K'rei smiled, looking around the Barracks. He had managed to get away from the dust and wasn't sneezing anymore. "I agree. There will definitely be a hatching very soon." The brown rider looked around, trying to gage where they needed to start and who could do what to make things easier. He chuckled. "Dust clouds aren't fun." He nodded. "Well, I like helping, so it's no problem. Plus, we'll get it done faster with two of us."
K'rei
"Of course it was. I don't want any sick dragonets or their lifemates due to inadequate cleaning," Annalyra said with a cheery smile, moving over to the first 'wallow' and bringing out the water, brushes, and towels. "Take your pick. I prefer using the brushes first, then the towels. Things get cleaned better that way." She found another bucket and poured half the water into it, offering it to K'rei. "I'll take this side. You can take that side. And we'll work our way toward the back of this big old place," she told him.
Annalyra
K'rei made a face at her words. "That definitely wouldn't be a good thing. Don't need sick dragonets or riders." K'rei accepted the bucket, then looked at his side. He decided to start with the brushes as well. It sounded logical enough. "Alright then, let's get this place looking clean again."
K'rei
"Yes, let's!" Annalyra said, disappearing into the first area needing cleaned. Before long, she was humming to a cheery ballad, drifting into her work methodically. Things always went smoother and better when one enjoyed theirself while working.
Annalyra
The brown rider smiled and headed over to his side. At least it would go faster with the two of them. K'rei listened quietly as Annalyra started to hum. She sounded pretty good to him. Before long, he found himself adding words to her humming. Sometimes he just couldn't stop himself. Guess that was part of being a Harper.
K'rei
Annalyra kept up her humming as K'rei started singing, enjoying the Harper's voice like she had so often enjoyed others' as well. She hadn't realized how much time had passed until her dragon gently butted into her thoughts. {{Mine, it's dinner time. The rest of the Weyr is already heading to the Caverns.}} Annalyra stood up and stepped out of her area, her humming ceased as she gazed down what was left, which was not much, and what they'd already gotten done. "K'rei, Preciseth says it's dinner time. Are you hungry?" She knew she'd slowly gotten ahead of the brownrider, but she was more attuned to cleaning than him, she was certain of it. She started up the aisle toward the 'wallow' he was at.
Annalyra
K'rei had been enjoying singing and listening to Annalyra hum that he hadn't paid attention to time. He hadn't really sang much since Talyn had died and it felt good. That was the reason Cerith hadn't bothered him. The brown rider quickly looked up at Annalyra's voice. "It's that late already?" he asked in disbelief. Then his stomach growled as if to answer his question. "Well, guess I am kinda hungry," he smiled, standing up.
K'rei
Annalyra smiled. "Yes, it is. Time flies when you're having a bit of fun." The greenrider pushed some stray hairs out of her face, then smiled at the brownrider. "You can leave your bucket outside the wallow so we remember where we've left off. I do thank you for the help. It was much appreciated, " she told him, having already done so with her bucket.
Annalyra
He chuckled a little. "I guess you're right. At least we got the majority of it done." K'rei stepped out of his wallow and stretched a little. He definitely wasn't used to bending that much. But he hadn't minded helping. "Okay," he said, suiting words to actions. K'rei smiled. "I'm glad I was around. I must say, I'll never forget where the barracks are now," he grinned.
K'rei
Annalyra laughed at K'rei's last comment. "Good, then I can call on you again for help, huh?" she asked him, teasingly. After a glance at the rest of the barracks, she smiled and started for the entrance. "Let's go eat."
Annalyra
K'rei continued to smile. He hadn't really relaxed this much since Talyn had died and it felt good. The brown rider nodded. "Definitely. I'm always willing to help out. Just have your lovely green speak with Cerith if you can't find me." K'rei was about to follow her when a little blue flit appeared and started scolding him. K'rei shook his head with a smile. The blue finally settled onto K'rei's shoulder. "Sorry about that, Annalyra. This is Rylin. Apparently he thinks I forgot to feed him."
K'rei
Annalyra looked toward the sound of a firelizard's scolding and smiled at the little blue. "I'm certain I will. And he's handsome. He was probably off having fun with the other firelizards around here and just now realized that he was hungry," she said cheerily. That's how they could be, she heard.
Annalyra
Rylin turned his head when he heard Annalyra's voice. He puffed out his chest a little as he realized that she was talking about him. K'rei chuckled. "Well, I'd say he thanks you for that. And yes, I'd say you're right. He does that quite often." He held his arm toward her. "Shall we go?"
K'rei<>Rylin
Annalyra smiled at the blue, then accepted K'rei's arm. "Let's," she told him with a cheery smile. She was a bit hungry at the moment anyway. Well, more than a bit. She had skipped the midday meal due to being involved in cleaning her weyr and looking for that misplaced item.
Annalyra
Rylin quickly settled on K'rei's shoulder. K'rei led the way out of the Barracks, but then had to stop and think. He was still trying to learn his way around and Annalyra hadn't had time to show him around yet. "This way, right?" he asked, looking at the green rider.
K'rei<>Rylin
Annalyra smiled and nodded. "Yes, that's right. Over there's the Candidate Barracks," she added, pointing to the noted place. Then she moved her indication further along the weyr wall to a dragonsized cavern. "That would be the wher residence. You should be seeing one of our peace keepers out and about soon with his brown. That one's quite a sight for anyone that's never met a wher before. But he's harmless as long as you don't attack his handler. They're a bit testy from what I've heard."
Annalyra
K'rei smiled. He was glad to see that he had chosen the right direction. Hopefully within a sevenday he'd have the Weyr figured out. He followed Annalyra's indication. "Oh, so that's where they stay. I had heard we had a wher here." The brown rider nodded. "I've read a little bit about them. They sound protective. But I guess the dragons aren't much different when someone tries to hurt their riders. I'll be interested in talking to them though."
K'rei
Annalyra chuckled. "Whers are supposedly worse. Some of them get testy the moment someone else touches their handler, even if it isn't threatening. Or at least, that's the original whers." The greenrider studied the entrance a long moment before continuing on. "I don't think they're ready to come out just yet. Bad thing about nocturnal partners, huh?" she commented.
Annalyra
K'rei frowned a little. "I'd heard that they could be like that. I guess in a way it's good, but not always." He followed Annalyra's gaze and watched the entrance. It would be interesting to see the wher and its handler at some point in time. K'rei shrugged. "Maybe. But not if you're a night person yourself. Then a wher would be great."
K'rei
The greenrider smiled and said, "You'll see the brown one after dinner. That's usually when I see him. You can't miss his firelizard. He's a very bright blue in my opinion. If you want, we can stop over there after dinner," she offered. Then, they should all be awake, she was pretty sure of it. "And yes, night people would do best with whers. I know for sure that the brown pair's out all night long walking the grounds and stuff. I can't recall his name right offhand."
Annalyra
The brown rider grinned. "That sounds like a great idea. I'd really like to see this whers. I've heard so many different rumors and now I'm really curious." K'rei chuckled at her observation. "Definitely not a good job for me," he grinned. "I don't mind being up late, but I prefer the sun."
K'rei
Annalyra nodded with a smile. "Then a stop at the wher residence is on order after we eat." And about the wher handler that walked the grounds every night...she' d heard that he loves children and so does his wher, but of there was danger to be found or a fight to be stopped, they were the ones to call on. "Ah, the sun. Yes. It's wonderful. I like the light of day. At least I can see much further than at night."
Annalyra
K'rei grinned. "Great! I'll be looking forward to it. I must admit I've never met a wher before." The young man tried to image what the handler would be like. Of course the wherhandlers were only human too, but he coudln't wait to meet them. He chuckled. "I'd have so many bruises from running into everything that I couldn't see," K'rei said.
K'rei
Annalyra smiled as they approached the dining cavern and joined others that were trickling in for the evening meal. "Yes, that would be for certain," she said about the bruises. She took a wiff of the smells that lingered in the cavern. "Oh, the food is always so great here," she commented.
Annalyra
K'rei looked around the Dining Cavern. It was one of the only places that he could find. He chuckled. "I think I'll pass on the bruises. Thankfully Cerith likes to sleep at night." The brown rider grinned. "It does smell good. I sure hope you're right about the food," he smiled. "I'll let you know my opinion after we eat."
K'rei
Annalyra chuckled softly. To her, the food was wonderful. It had a personal touch to it with the Weyr being so small. Not vast quantities of next to nothing tastes that one had to spice up on their own if they could. "Okay. Let's eat, then," she said, heading for the row of food tables that had been set out for the diners to pick and choose at their own discretion.
Annalyra
K'rei smiled. He really wasn't that picky about food. Although he was wondering about it now that he had talked to Annalyra. The brown rider nodded. "Sounds like a plan to me," he smiled, getting in line behind her. Everything seemed wonderful.
K'rei
Several moments later, Annalyra led K'rei to a table, her tray with a bowl of greens and a plate of meat and other essentials for a balanced meal. All topped off with a cup of mixed fruit juice. Yes, she liked a variety. "I don't know if you're the type to talk while eating or not, but I don't mind either way, so if there's anything on your mind, just ask. I haven't got a problem talking while eating." Some people just couldn't stand talkers while eating where others did more talking than eating at meal times.
Annalyra
The brown rider looked at all the food. It all smelled so good. He wasn't sure where to start. He ended up with basically the same thing as Annalyra except he had chosen klah. He needed a pick me up after working in the barracks all afternoon. K'rei smiled. "Good, I can go either way. I don't mind talking during a meal either." K'rei sat down across from the green rider. "So, how do you like it here?" he asked. He was still trying to get use to life without Talyn and his son and it wasn't easy.
K'rei
Annalyra nodded and started at her greens until K'rei's question. Afterwhich, she finished her current mouthfull, then answered cheerily, "I love it here. I just got word from my daughter that she didn't Impress again, so I've got to go get her and bring her here for this clutch. She's already gotten the permission, just awaiting my answer as to when I can come get her. I especially like the whers. And the fact that one of them is also our Assistant Candidate Master. It makes for a well-rounded Weyr, I believe." She didn't know his reason for asking, but she was more than happy to comply to answer.
Annalyra
K'rei listened quietly to her answer. It did sound like it was a nice rounded out Weyr. Plus, from he'd seen so far it was a beautiful place and Cerith was happy. The brown rider's eyes showed sadness at the mention of her daughter and he barely managed to fight back tears. "I'm sure you can't wait to have your daughter here with you," he said softly, trying to keep his voice calm.
K'rei
Annalyra looked up after taking another bite and studied the brownrider closely. She hadn't raised two kids and been around the creche and candidates back at Igen Weyr for so many turns without picking up little things that gave way to underlying issues. "Did I say something wrong?" she asked after a few moments, having gone over what she had just said and finding nothing that would be offending that would cause K'rei to seem so sullen so quickly.
Annalyra
K'rei quickly dried the few tears that had escaped without him realizing. The brown rider shook his head. He had left his Weyr to escape the memories, but apparently they followed him. "No, no," he quickly assured her. "I was just thinking is all." He wasn't sure if he was ready to tell anyone about his past.
K'rei
The greenrider eyed K'rei another few moments before giving it up. It really wasn't her business, so she didn't need to pry. "I always have an ear open if you'd ever like to talk," she told him, then turned back to her food, still wondering just what it was that had upset the young brownrider.
Annalrya
The brown rider sighed in relief. He was glad that Annalyra hadn't pushed the subject. He just wasn't sure if he could talk about Talyn without losing it totally. "Thank you, Annalyra," he said with a weak smile. "I'll keep that in mind."
K'rei
She smiled in welcome and worked on finishing her food. She wanted to make certain that they would bump into the Assistant CandidateMaster before she headed off to the barracks for the evening. She wanted to know how many Candidates they had now. The Hatching was getting quite close.
Annalyra
K'rei quietly finished his food. He wasn't sure if he would able to say much else without breaking down. At least not until he had had some time to collect his thoughts. He figured he'd be okay by they finsihed eating.
K'rei
After finishing her meal and quietly waiting while observing the others in the Cavern until K'rei finished, Annalyra finally got up with a smile. "All finished?" she asked K'rei.
Annalyra
The brown rider nodded. "And you were right. The food was excellent," he smiled, feeling more like himself again. "Next time I'll know not to doubt you," he grinned, standing up.
K'rei
Annalyra waved the compliment away with a smile. "I know a fair bit. Don't you worry any, good sir." She picked up her tray of emptied dishes and walked them over to the bin, then looked to K'rei. "On to the wher residence?" she inquired.
Annalyra
K'rei followed her with his dishes. He was still trying to learn everything. The brown rider's eyes lit up. "That sounds great," he said, sounding more like himself. He wouldn't wait to meet the wher.
K'rei
Annalyra chuckled. "Follow me, then," she said before heading out of the cavern and starting across the Weyr to the wher residence. Already, one was moving about within view but not quite outside yet.
Annalyra
K'rei grinned and quickly followed Annalyra. He was looking forward to this. "They won't mind us stopping by, will they?" he asked as they neared the cave. His eyes widened when he saw movement.
K'rei
Annalyra shook her head with a smile. "Of course not. They're just like us except that their dragons," she held her hands up in the quote motions, "are a bit more wild and can only speak to the handlers and children, I guess." K'rei really had nothing to fear of the odd-looking dragons of the night.
The movement in the cavern belonged to that of green Veela, a quick and cheery wher of an average size, but with a wildly patterned hide. She was playing. Something. As the two riders got closer, another wher could be seen, but of a much larger size and lighter in color. And the game was apparent. Tag. With soft growls and squeals, the sisters were happily playing for the moment.
Annalyra<>Veela
K'rei nodded with a smile. "I just wanted to make sure," he said. "It wouldn't do to make them mad." Although he couldn't wait to see them up close. He had heard quite a few things about them. Rylin appeared then and chirped.
K'rei smiled at his flit but started as he watched the two whers playing. He couldn't help but laugh softly. Rylin thingyed his head to the side and watched the whers, not sure exactly what to make of them.
K'rei<>Rylin
Veela stopped a moment in her play with her larger sister at the chirp from a nearby firelizard. Those were fun to play with. Seeing the approaching people, she growled softly in the direction of the darkness, then trotted out to greet them, having already been donned with her goggles to shield against the sunlight for another mark or two when it wouldn't bother her sensitive eyes. Excited sounds escaping her, she went nearly right up to the two riders, stopping within a few feet of them with the only note of wariness she possessed. The bigger green stayed back as a tall redhead came outside after his wher. "Hi, Annalyra! Caleeka's still here," he called cheerily once he'd caught up with the wher and laid a hand on her. ~Vella say hi! Veela say hi!~ the green spoke to her handler excitedly. "Veela says hi. I'm Revee," he said to the brownrider, holding his hand out. Unlike his siblings' whers, his was hardly the protective one and it showed as her eyes
lingered on that firelizard atop K'rei's shoulder. ~Veela play little dragon!~
"Hi, Revee. Thank you. I needed to speak with her anyway," Annalyra said in response to the greeting. "And hello, Veela. You're looking beautiful today.
Annalyra<>Veela<>Revee
Rylin chirped excitedly when Veela came close. The little blue wasn't intimadating by the wher at all. She looked like fun. ~Play!~ the little blue said, not bothering to tell his Pet what was going on.
K'rei smiled as he watched the whers. It was obvious that they each had different personalities as well. He shook Revee's hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Revee. I'm K'rei and this is Rylin. I hope you don't mind us stopping by. Annalyra was telling me about the whers and I just had to meet them."
K'rei<>Rylin
Veela whuffled excitedly and hopped a bit as she looked at Rylin in happiness. He was going to play with her! She had missed Annalyra's comment, but at the moment, she didn't care if someone insulted her. She had a new little dragon to play with. Revee smiled. "A rider, huh? Which one's yours?" the redhead asked, gaze straying to the Weyr's ledges to look for a brown that could belong to this man. Yes, he knew knots very well.
Annalyra chuckled at the green's attitude. "She's definitely an exception to normal wher categories," she commented.
Revee<>Veela<>Annalyra
Rylin chittered and hopped down from K'rei's shoulder before the brown rider could react. The little blue always loved to play. Even if Veela was a lot bigger then he was. He didn't care . ~What play?~ he asked.
K'rei nodded with a smile. He glanced down at Rylin, but figured the blue was fine. "Cerith is my dragon," he said, pointing toward where the brown was enjoying the last of the sun. K'rei chuckled. "Well, I like her and I'm glad she seems friendly."
K'rei<>Rylin
Veela watched the firelizard playfully, bending down to whuffle at the little thing and give it a nudge, speaking excitedly with her handler. ~Little dragon play Veela! Veela love little dragon!~
Revee found the mentioned dragon and smiled. "He's a handsome one," he commented with a whistle before looking at his wher's interest and chuckling at her words. "She's happy Rylin'll play with her. Neek's kinda boring. He sticks close to Sanrev and Sanrek," he added.
Annalyra chuckled. There was the name she'd forgotten earlier. "Well, Neek's pet is our Weyr Protector. Wouldn't it be best that he stuck close to them?" she inquired.
Revee shrugged. "C'mon, K'rei. Meet the rest of us odd dragon pairs," he said, waving the brownrider along and turning to head within the cavern that the big green stood watching them curiously.
Revee<>Veela<>Annalyra
Rylin chittered happily. This was going to be fun. ~Play!~ the little blue said happily, hopping around Veela's feet.
K'rei chuckled as he watched his little blue flit. "Thank you," he smiled. "I think Rylin's happy as well. I know I don't play with him the way he thinks I should. And Cerith doesn't always either."
K'rei looked over at Annalyra. He hadn't realized they had a Weyr Protector. That was good to know. K'rei's eyes lit up at Revee's invitation. "Really? I can meet ther others too?"
K'rei<>Rylin
Veela snorted playfully and pranced in place before nosing at the little dragon again and scampering off toward the cavern where her sister stood watching them. Annalyra followed Revee's lead as he said, "Sure can!" to K'rei's inquiry. The darkness of the cavern was dimly lit by half covered glows. The bright blue of Sanrev's firelizard seemed to glow from his perch atop a table top while his Pet silently moved about within his wher's wallow, the brown hardly visible due to his dark hide. Calee watched the little group enter with interest.
"That one's my sister's. Calee, this is K'rei and Rylin." Annalyra didn't need introduction. She knew the wher and her handler and the wher knew her. "There's a brown over that way. His name's Sanrek. That boring blue over there's Neek and my brother Sanrev's somewhere over there, too. He ain't real social. I think Caleke and Calbolt are still sleeping. Caleke was a bit sick last night, so he might be getting a few extra marks before he goes and helps the Infirmary for the night." Revee introduced, obviously quite the informitive when the occasion asked for it and a natural talker.
Revee<>Veela<>Annalyra
Rylin chittered again and touched Veela's nose. The little blue took to the air to follow Veela. He wasn't about to lose his new friend. Although he was surprised to see other whers when they got inside.
K'rei quickly followed Revee and Annalyra. He wasn't about to pass up a chance to meet the other whers. He followed Revee's indication. He hadn't realized how many whers were at Angel Cove. "Oh, well, I hope Caleke starts feeling better."
K'rei<>Rylin
Annalyra smiled. "I'll leave you two to talk a moment while I talk with Caleeka," she informed before heading off to one of the better lit wallows.
Revee grinned at the greenrider then gave K'rei his full attention again. "Caleke's always sick. Has been since he was born. He gets better for a while and then declines again. But he's really good at treatments of just about any kind of ailment or injury you can think of. And he's even found ways to make medicines taste better. Don't be surprised if you see Calbolt about without him. If he's by himself, then he's off to find a Healer and, trust me, he knows what Healer's knots look like, so don't even try to stop him unless you tell him you'll take him to a Healer." Revee shrugged with a helpless smile. His brother was different than most but still quite the giver to the Weyr.
Veela whuffled again and nosed at her big sister, then looked back at Rylin happily.
Annalyra<>Revee
"Thanks, Annalyra," K'rei smiled.
The brown rider turned back to Revee. "Oh, that's not good." He chuckled a little. "Medicines never tasted good. I'm glad to hear someone finally found a way to make them taste better." He nodded. "I'm make sure to stay out of Calbolt's way. I don't think I want a wher mad at me."
Ryling cheeped another greeting. He was enjoying meeting all the new people and whers. He was just as curious if not more then his Pet.
K'rei<>Rylin
Revee chuckled. "Calbolt's actually really nice and polite and really shy, but if Caleke needs anything that he can't get himself, you can bet that little thing will get it for him."
Revee
K'rei smiled. "Nothing wrong with that. We could all use a friend like that." He couldn't believe how much he was learning already. He hadn't realized how helpful whers could be.
K'rei
"Definitely, " Revee said with a nod and a grin as Veela came up behind them and nosed him. ~Veela not see.~ the green stated. With a smile, the Handler obliged to taking off Veela's goggles so she could see better in the darkness of the cavern. ~Veela see!~ she said before prancing off into the darkness further back. "She couldn't see in here with 'em on," Revee explained, holding up the offended goggles his wher had been wearing.
Revee<>Veela
K'rei studied the strange goggles that Revee was holding. "So, that explains why they can be out in the daylight. Guess I missed that when we first met." He had been too awed by the wher to really pay attention to the goggles.
Rylin followed Veela but cheeped a little as it got darker. ~No see!~ the little blue told Veela. Sure, the whers could see, but he wasn't use to such darkness.
K'rei<>Rylin
Revee nodded with a smile. "Yeah. Those that helped develope the Crique Whers also found a way to allow them outside in the daylight to be even more useful on top of gentler and less protective than the normal sort of whers. It's easy to miss with Veela. She's always moving."
Veela stopped her happy trot, having almost forgotten about the little dragon that had been following her. ~Little dragon ride!~ she said cheerily.
Revee<>Veela
K'rei listened quietly to Revee's explanation. He hadn't known a lot about whers anyway and he hadn't had any time to really check into the Crique Whers yet. "Oh, well, that was a good idea. I like the more friendly part," he smiled.
Rylin cheeped and hopped up on Veela's back. At least she could see where she was goin. ~Ride fun! Thanks.~
K'rei<>rylin
The Wherhandler grinned. "We all like the more friendly bit. It helps us to help out around the place more, but there's some of us, like Sanrev and Sanrek that still prefer the night. Sanrek just can't wear the same pair of goggles for more than a couple months. His head isn't the average shape."
Veela trotted along merrily through the darkness, as sure of her step and direction as any human during the daylight.
Revee<>Veela
"Oh, I can see how that could be useful then," K'rei smiled. "The Weyr can always use help." He looked at Revee in surprise. "He can't keep the goggles? I guess they're like dragons. Not all dragons have the same shape head."
Rylin looked around his surroundings, but couldn't see much. He could make out some shape, but not many.
K'rei<>Rylin
Revee chuckled. "If you ever manage to see that big brown around, you'll see why we can't make any goggles to fit him."
While Veela was off wandering, the brown being talked of finally came into view, big and gaunt looking as he was, but the dimness of the glows kept most of his odd features softened as he stared at the new person for several long moments. And bright blue Neek darted from his back to hover in front of K'rei for a moment before darting back to the dark wher.
Revee<>Neek
K'rei nodded. "I'll keep my eyes open for him. I'd like to see him."
Rylin chittered happily as he stayed on Veela's back. He knew there was no way he could find his way around.
The brown rider nearly jumped when the brown wher suddenly appeared. He hadn't been expecting him to just show up. K'rei smiled as Neek flew in front of him and then disappeared again.
K'rei<>Rylin
Revee chuckled at K'rei's reaction to the big brown's appearance. And made a goofy face at Neek as the blue hovered, then darted off. "That's Sanrek. He tends to just pop into view a lot. Don't worry, he's harmless as long as you don't threaten him, Neek, or Sanrev."
"Sanrek says he don't know you. Neither do I, honestly," Sanrev said, as he walked up to his brother and the rider, offering K'rei a smile. "I'm Sanrev," he said, offering his hand.
Revee<>Sanrev
The brown rider smiled. "I guess I'm safe then. I wasn't ever planning on hurting anyone, so I don't think he'll have a reason to get protective."
K'rei looked over at the new voice. He hadn't even heard Sanrev walk up. "Oh, hi. I'm K'rei," he answered, shaking Sanrev's hand.
K'rei
Revee had started only slightly at his brother's voice. There'd been many times the two of them would wrestle and Sanrev always had the upper hand, having always been able to sneak up on him.
Sanrev smiled, green eyes studying the rider briefly. "Nice to meetcha. Sanrek likes to know who all's around and with this Weyr rebuildin', someone new comes in every day on us," he explained.
Revee<>Sanrev
K'rei cringed a little. "That must be hard. I didn't really think about all the new ones coming in. Well, I'm new and ride brown Cerith," the rider answered. "And I mean no harm to the Weyr, so Sanrek doesn't have to worry."
K'rei
Sanrev chuckled. "It is on Sanrek and I doubt there'd be much of a problem. You don't seem the sort that would cause trouble," he assured the rider. He'd already guessed on who he needed to watch for. A few riders that had come seemed the sort to cause trouble and he took care to watch them a bit more than others.
Revee grinned at the two talking. His brother really wasn't that antisocial. He was just one that preferred to keep to himself.
Sanrev<>Revee
The brown rider nodded in understanding. "Well, it seems like he's doing a good job." K'rei chuckled. "I'm glad to hear that. I don't want to cause any trouble. I just needed a change of scenary."
K'rei
Sanrev nodded, glancing toward his brown momentarily. "Most came here to change the scenery. Some came to escape a past, but most came to help rebuild and that's the best part," he commented on K'rei's reason for coming to Angel's Cove Weyr.
Sanrev
Sadness flooded K'rei's eyes for an instant before he was able to mask it again. He had actually come to escape his past, but he wasn't sure if he was doing a good job at it. "It seems like the Weyr is coming along nicely."
K'rei
Sanrev had noted the brief look in the rider's eyes but didn't comment. He was one that wanted to escape a past, hiding it by a change of scenery. That was something he'd learned while guarding before Sanrek...how to read any emotion by something so simple as a brief moment of one letting their guard down. Instead of inquiring more, he smiled and nodded. "Yes, it is," he confirmed.
Sanrev
Rylin chittered happily from somewhere inside the cave. The little blue was still having fun with Veela.
K'rei smiled at the wherhandler. "Annalyra was trying to show me around earlier, but I wanted to meet the whers and their handlers first. Althought I think I can find the barracks and the Dining Cavern," he laughed.
K'rei<>Rylin
Sanrev nodded with a smile. "The Dining Cavern's a good place to start any tour. Everything else pretty much falls into place after that from what I've heard," he said.
Revee chuckled at a comment from his little wher, looking into the darkness that she had gone off into a bit beforehand.
Sanrev<>Revee
K'rei smiled in relief. "Well, that's good to know. At least I know where the most important place is," he laughed. He looked over at Revee. "Rylin isn't causing your lovely green any trouble is he?"
K'rei
Sanrev nodded with a smile. Revee looked back at the others with an odd grin, having only partially heard K'rei's comment. "What?" he asked in confusion. "I'm sorry. When Veela talks, I kind of zone into just her for a moment."
Sanrev<>Revee
The brown rider chuckled. He had a tendency of doing that with Cerith as well. "That's okay. I just wanted to make sure that Rylin isn't being a pest and causing Veela trouble."
K'rei
Revee grinned and laughed. "Trust me, that little thing is hardly a pest. Now I can be a pest easily and she's said so once or twice," he said cheerily. Veela came trotting back into view with her little blue rider and nuzzled her handler merrily, eyes awhirl in happiness. ~Veela like little dragon!~ she said. Revee relayed once again his wher's words, "She really likes your firelizard."
Revee<>Veela
K'rei laughed. "Oh trust me, Cerith has told me that a few times as well." He looked over as Veela came back into view. Rylin chittered happily. ~Fun!~ the blue broadcast. K'rei smiled. "Well, I'd say Rylin's enjoying himself as well."
K'rei<>Rylin
Revee chuckled at the big green and the little blue and agreed. "I know she is."
Sanrev smiled and slipped in his parting words. "I've gotta get goin'. We're late for our rounds," he said with a smile for the brownrider.
Revee<>Sanrev
"Well, at least I'll know where to look if Rylin turns up missing," K'rei smiled. He looked over at Sanrev. "It was a pleasure meeting you, Sanrev," he said cheerily.
K'rei
"Pleasure's mine," the brown wherhandler said, turning and walking toward his wher with bright blue Neek flitting about close by. And the pleasure was his for that was one more person the handler knew within the Weyr walls.
Revee grinned. "I suppose I should be getting to my work as well," he said with a chuckle. "Caleeka should be about through with Annalyra. They usually only chat a little here before they head across the way to the barracks."
Sanrev<>Revee
K'rei watched Sanrev and Sanrek disappear, then turned back to Revee. The brown rider nodded. "I should probably finish figuring out my way around here," he smiled. "Then see what else I need to do for the day."
K'rei
Revee smiled and offered his hand. "Well, brownrider K'rei. It's was fun meeting you. I'm sure we'll bump into each other again," he said cheerily.
Revee
K'rei shook Revee's hand with a smile. "It was nice meeting you as well. I hope we do bump into each other. I would love to learn more about the whers."
K'rei
Revee grinned. "I'm sure you will." He stepped away, Veela bouncing along with him after saying her good-byes to the little dragon she'd been playing with. Annalyra finally returned to K'rei and gave him a smile. "Shall we continue onward?" she asked him pleasantly.
Revee<>Veela<>Annalyra
K'rei smiled. "Thanks, Revee. And good-bye Veela." Rylin cheeped good-bye and hopped back up to K'rei's shoulder. The little blue had enjoyed his time with Veela. K'rei looked over at Annalyra. "Yes, let's," he said cheerily.
K'rei<>Rylin
