Traits of a Crique Wher:
Naming:
Wher names, like firelizard names, can be anything. The do not have to end in 'sk' like in the Pern books; though most of these whers seem to prefer a name similar to their handler's. To see how close the bond is you'd look at a wher's name. If the similarity is in the beginning of the whers name, then they have an extremely close bond. If it's at the end, then the bond isn't as close. If the name is totally different, the pair has a very loose bond.
Ex: Handler's name is Mel; Wher's name is Carara.--LOOSE BOND
Handler's name is Mel; Wher's name is Caramel.--SEMI-CLOSE BOND
Handler's name is Mel; Wher's name is Melra.--SUPER-CLOSE BOND

Physical/Mental Traits and Temperment:
Crique whers are larger and more agile than their wild cousins, and have been bred to be less agressive and more gentle in nature. Crique whers can fly, but only short distances and only late at night. They can't carry a passenger, or go between. Crique whers can and do use a form of telepathy like the dragons, but unlike dragons, the whers can only speak to their handler or their off-spring. Some have even been known to be able to talk to a long-time weyrmate. (another wher that they've been with for over five years) How coherent the words are depends on the color of the wher.
Gold: Melra is hungry. Melra's and Melra go and eat now?
Bronze: Melra hungy, Melra's and Melra eat now?
Brown: Caramel hungry, eat now?
Blue: Hungry, Caramel's feed Caramel now?
Green: Caramel's and Caramel eat?
Eyes:
Though they still retain a lot of the same sensitivity to light that other whers have, Crique whers are able to go about during the day with the help of specialized tinted goggles made by one of the first handlers of the breed.
Mating:
Golds: Gold whers, when ready to mate, have flights like their draconic cousins. Only Bronze and sometimes Brown whers particapate in these flights. The flight is usually done in a series of short hops and takes place primarily at night. The flight only goes up to twenty feet in the air; and takes about three hours to complete. The gold, after a flight, usually disappears with the wher that caught her and doesn't return for about three days. Golds are always very possesive of their catcher; this sometimes last up until the gold clutches. Gold Clutches usually consist of anywhere between 7 and 15 eggs.
(Rule updated: 8/28/08)
Greens: Green whers, when ready to mate, initiate what is called a run. Exactly as it sounds, the green issues a roar of challenge to any takers and takes off running. The green's run is over quickly; never lasting more than an hour. A run takes place primarily during the morning or early evening and is rarely at night. Green whers, like golds, disappear with their catcher after a run, but unlike the golds, green return within eight hours. Green clutches are usually smaller and consist of about 3 to 5 eggs.

Bonding:
Crique whers bond in one of two ways; Impression and Choosing Crique whers will also bond to a person regaurdless of gender or sexual preferance.
(Rule updated: 8/28/08)
Impression:
This type of bonding only occurs at birth; and usually only Gold and Bronze whers do this; though Blue whers have been known go through this type of bonding too, though VERY rarely. In this type of bonding, the wher must "blood" the potential handler; which bonds the wher to said handler. With this type of bonding, the wher will only "Impress" to a single person; never to a family. In this type of bonding, the wher involved becomes overprotective to the point of posessiveness over its handler; though the wher never attacks people unless its handler is in life-threatening danger; though they do tend to growl. In the case of this type of bonding, if the handler dies, the wher goes into a killing rage and must be put down. They do not bond again. If they do not find a bonded at birth, then the wher goes wild and cannot be Impressed at a later time in its life.
Choosing:
This type of bonding can occur anytime during the whers life and is usually done by Brown, Blue, and Green whers. In this type of bonding, a wher either gets fed by the potential owner/handler when it hatches and then decide it likes the person or if it comes across an individual/family that it grows fond of later in life and then it "chooses" to remain to the family and bonds itself to said individual/family through the "blooding" process. Unlike the Impression form of bonding, if the handler dies, the wher simply leaves the area and then can "choose" again at a later time. The wher doesn't go crazy like with the Impression type of bonding; though the wher does still get very attached to the handler.
