Month 2:
Niradene was out in the fields with her crafter's newest runner a sweet but somewhat timid little mare named Tandy after her dam Mandy and sire Tor. She was supposed to figure out each personailty and teach the runner to trust people more. So that was what she was doing, suddenly Tandy started prancing nervously showing signs she was going to spook. Niradene was right there trying to calm her "It's okay girl what's the matter." she said stroking the horse talking softly not realzing what had spooked the poor runner was a dragon.
Niradene
Z'dan had been out exploring and/or Searchriding. He just loved getting out and checking out the land beyond the Weyr. Gliding along with the wispy clouds, Zee flitting about next to them, Cabalath had other things in mind on this day. He sensed someone that he liked somewhere close. Then, the little, extremely dark brown, spotted what he'd been looking for and banked to fly over a little lower to make certain, earning a curious thought from His. {{That one!}} he stated matter of factly. {{I want THAT one.}}
Z'dan smiled. [[Okay, okay. Take us down, but land well away from them. Don't wanna spook that runner too much.]]
With a croon and a shadow dancing across the ground, the little brown complied and landed a bit of a distance away from the one he wanted and that runner. Once landed, Z'dan dismounted and walked toward the girl with a smile and, once he'd gotten within calling range, he spoke up, "Hello!" as he continued to close the distance between them. He never refused Cabalath's choices even when they weren't expected.
Z'dan<>Cabalath
Niradene after a small struggle with tandy managed to calm her "I don't what got into you girl you don't spooke over nothing." she said patting her. Then to her surpries she heard a voice calling to her it was unfamilar. She turned and and saw a man approaching and by the knots a rider! A rider here no wonder her runner spooked not all runners where used to dragons after all. Niradene had never seen a dragon but heard many stories even though she had a fear of heights she always wondered what it be like to be a rider. Tandy pranced as the man came close "Shh girl he isn't going to hurt us I promise." she said softly to the mare then to the man she called "Hello, sir."
Niradene
Z'dan slowed his steps at seeing the runner still prancing, knowing the main problem was his dragon. "I'm sorry, miss. My brown's over there. The big pain wanted to land closer, but I know runners. I'm Z'dan of Cabalath," he said in a lowered voice so as not to spook the runner further. Zee flitted along in her Pet's wake, but landed with a soft chirp on his shoulder, studying the girl and runner curiously.
Z'dan<>Zee
Niradene was stunned to say the least he was a searchrider! She leaned against her runner "Me a rider? You mean it? Of course I want to." she said with a huge smile r ider imagine that she felt so excited and nervous.
Niradene
Z'dan grinned, his eyes cheery, but his voice was a tad on the serious side. "Yeah, you. And Cabalath's never wrong either."
{{Tell her I thank her.}} the brown rumbled from where he patiently sat.
The rider grinned then. "And Cabalath says thanks for accepting the Search. You've just made him quite the happy little dragon."
Zee added her few marks softly, knowing that the runner was a bit jumpy.
Z'dan<>Zee<>Cabalath
Niradene after getting over the intial shock seemed to stand straighter "And tell him that I thank him for searching me out. well before you take me I must return Tandy to her stall and gather my things and inform the master that I am leaving." she said
Niradene
With a light chuckled, Z'dan carried out the request, glancing back to see his brown stand up happily. "Go right ahead, miss. Would ya' like me to wait here or come along? Cabalath's happy where he is until we're ready to go." Sometimes, it helped if he was there when his Searches told their superiors, because some just don't like to or don't want to believe that one of their charges had been Searched.
Z'dan
"Come along please just so my craft master is sure." Niradene said as she slowly lead Tandy back to the main stall area.
Niradene
Z'dan smiled with a nod. "Certainly." With Zee flitting along behind, occasionaly landing a moment or two on her Pet's shoulder. The rider stood back at a small distance while the girl put the runner back where she belonged, watching with a smile at her work. Fleet would most certainly like this one, he was nearly certain of it.
Z'dan<>Zee
Niradene patted tandy as she returned whispering to the runner "I now your sad to see me go after we just got start knowing each other. But I promise there are some good people here to take care of you." she stroked tandy reassuringly and not caring if the rider saw she gave the runner a smal kiss on the runners nose. She turned and headed to the office she knew the master he was so busy though with lots of beastcrafters but he made time to visit the stalls everyday in fact as luck would have it it was his time to visit.
Niradene
The brownrider continued his quiet observation, smiling at her obvious affection for the runner. "Ya' know, my Fleet'ld love ya'. Ya' got quite the hand with that lil' mare and Fleet's picky 'bout his handlers. I bet he'd like you," he said to her as she finished and they headed elsewhere.
Z'dan
"Really, I'd love to meet your Fleet." Niradene said finding the master she approached with respect "Sir." she said
The master looked "Ah Nira done with Tandy already?" he asked
"No sir I am afraid I wont be able to finish work with Tandy I have been searched." she said
"Searched! My word so this handsome young fellow behind you must be a searchrider. " the master said then the Z'dan he said "So you have searched Nira she is one of the best apprentices I have ever had one of the best I have seen with runners and I'd hate to see her go. So can you confirm that your dragon searched her and tell me to which weyr she'll be going."
Niradene<>Master
Z'dan smiled as he listened to the other two converse. He gave the Master a confident smile and nodded in confirmation. "Yes, sir. I'm Z'dan of brown Cabalath from Angel's Cove Weyr. Cabalath has indeed Searched yer apprentice and he's never wrong. Ipromise ya' that."
Z'dan
The master sighed and said "Ah well it seems you have indeed been searched. Well I wish you luck if you become a rider come back and visit us."
Niradene smiled and said "yes, sir." she ran off to gather her few things then returned "Ready to go sir." she said to the rider.
Niradene
Z'dan conversed briefly with the master while he awaited Niradene's return, not seeming to be in a great hurry. But he knew it sometimes took a while for a Search to say their good-byes and such. He gave the girl a warm smile once she returned and motioned with his arm in the way they were to go before stepping off in that direction. "So have ya' had much experience with dragons?" he asked her idly as they walked back to his waiting brown, his firelizard darting ahead then back to them again.
Z'dan
Niradene glanced back one last time waving a goodbye to all the runners she ahd worked with calling "Good bye all." she then followed the rider and said "Actually I've had no experience I mean I have heard of dragons but never seen one up close." she felt sort of embarressed at the fact.
Niradene
Z'dan smiled. "Don't worry about it. I just wanted to know so I could tell Cabalath to be a lil' gentle or not. He gets a bit excited when he gets to meet his Searches." Zee flitted ahead of them and landed on the brown who sat on his haunches in wait for his rider and Search to return. Bugling softly, the brown waited, knowing that His had said there were runners about that he needn't be spooking. <<Good, she comes.>> he stated proudly to His. {{Yes, but be gentle. She's never been around dragons before.}}
The rider smiled and turned to Niradene after he'd bespoken his brown and once they'd gotten next to him. "Niradene, this is Cabalath and he's pleased ya' decided to accept the Search." The brown lowered himself to his belly so that he could be closer to the girl and crooned softly.
Z'dan<>Cabalath<>Zee
When Niradene saw the dragon she was in complete and utter awe. "He's gorgeous." she whispered her eyes wide as she took him in she instantly wanted to rtouch him "Hello Cabalath, er thanks for searching me..can I touch you?" she asked shyly wanting desperatly to touch this amazing dragon it was that instant she knew she was right in her desire to be a rider more than anything, she had never thought she could be searched be here she was standing in front of the very dragon that searched her.
Niradene
Cabalath crooned at the compliments and said to both, <<Yes, you can.>> He moved his head a bit closer to the girl, multifaceted eyes whirling softly in a contented blue.
Z'dan smiled. "Yeah, he is," he said, then he smiled more when his brown spoke to Niradene, knowing that he had by how loud the words were in his own mind. "May I take yer bag?" he asked.
Z'dan<>Cabalath
Niradene nodded not taking her eyes off the brown handing Z'dan her bag it was a shcok of course to hear his voice in her head but she smiled and reach over touching the brown softly. His hide felt so wnderful under her hand. "I can't believ i am touching you." she said.
Niradene
Z'dan smiled when her reaction wasn't one of complete and total chaos. Then again, she hadn't been around them, so she might not know that they only talk to who they choose to. Cabalath liked talking to his Searches. They were his after all. The rider moved to secure Niradene's bag to the straps, then watched her a moment as his brown crooned softly, enjoying the touch. "Whenever yer ready, we can take a ride to the Weyr," he told the girl.
Z'dan
Niradene heard him but was engrossed in the dragonfinally she sighed and knew it was time to get going "I hope your are going to fly nice and easy for me." she told the dragon. with a smile "I am ready." she said.
Niradene
{{I promise.}} the brown said, looking over at His. Z'dan smiled. "Alright. Do you wanna climb up first or would you rather I already be up there when you climb up?" he asked. Some folk liked climbing up first in case they were to slip where others liked to see him climb up first to show them how it's done.
Z'dan
Niradene smiled in realief as the dragon made a promise then to him she said "Go up first I don't want to fall off or anything seeing as I don't know how to get on a dragon."
Niradene
Z'dan smiled and climbed up a bit slower than usual just so Niradene could watch how it was done. He wasn't going to leave her guessing because he'd gotten up on Cabalath so quickly. Once up, he smiled down at the girl. "Whenever yer ready, just step on his foreleg. Ya' won't hurt him none. Then grab the straps and climb up kinda like a ladder," he explained.
Z'dan
Niradene watched carefully as the rider mounted his dragon. She slowly approached Cabalath and stepped on his foreleg. She grabbed the straps and began climbing it seemed to take but an instant and she was there "Wow that's so neat, i never would have done that if you hadn't told me." she admitted with a grin.
Niradene
Z'dan smiled at the girl's words. "It's different with every dragon. Some're bigger, some're smaller." He shrugged, then noted how comfortable she seemed to be or not. "Alright, now we gotta strap ya' in, so ya' don't fall off, not that Cabalath's gonna let ya'. Do ya' want me to do it or would you prefer to do so?" He'd had one or two Searches that had gone crazy, it seemed, when he went to strap them in.
Z'dan
Niradene looked around from her perch on the dragons back she had never been that high off the ground but it wasn't so bad almost like riding a runner except much bigger. "I'd prefer if you do it because you know how and I don't" she answered.
Niradene
Z'dan nodded and reached around the girl to strap her to his brown for safe riding. "Some of Cabalath's Searches flipped out when I invaded their space to do this. That's why I make it a habit to ask first," he explained, finishing quickly, then turning to strap himself on. "If you want, you can hang onto my waist or a strap or two until yer comfy with the ride, okay?"
Z'dan
"I see its a good habit, I might freak out to if someone suddnely started strapping me in." she said "I will." she said
Niradene
The brownrider chuckled with a nod. "Yes it is," he confirmed. Zee circled around Cabalath's head, awaiting the moment for the little brown to take flight. "Ya' ready to fly?" Z'dan asked, turning to give Niradene a smile.
Z'dan
Niradene returned his smiled alittle nervously ready to grab him around his waist the moment she felt scared.
Niradene
He read her expression and gave her one more smile of comfort. "Up we go, then." [[Take us up, Cab,]] the rider thought to his lifemate. Cabalath got up and started at a walk, then broke into a gentle lope for only a stride or two, his wings outstretched, then he smoothly glided upward, skimming the tree tops just in time. He knew how to take off smoothly. That's one thing he did best for his nervous riders. He started a circle skyward, big and slow, gradually higher, taking his time for Niradene's sake. "How ya' doin', Niradene?" Z'dan asked, turning a bit to look back at his rider.
Z'dan<>Cabalath
As soon as they were up in the air though she was fightened and had immediatly wrapped her arms around his waste she felt excelerated in some ways it wasn't that bad but she wouldn't let go she tried to answer the rider but had trouble controlling her voice. "uhhh ." she answered for she had relaized truly she had a fear of heights
Niradene
Z'dan remained calm, feeling her grip on him, a sense of security for most, knowing that someone was able to right them should their balance sway. She must be one of those height fearing ones, he thought to himself. Better to get the first flight out of the way quickly for that matter. Smiling at her loss of words and her expression, he instead said, "Nod if yer ready to go to the Weyr. The ride'll be over sooner than ya' think."
Z'dan
Niradene was gratedul and nodded she was ready. she kept clinging to the rider as a sense of security though she knew the dragon wouldn't do anything scary just being off the ground so high she wondered if the brown had made a good chocie who ever heard of a rider being scared to fly.
Niradene
Z'dan smiled. "We're gonna go Between now. Ya' won't feel or hear or see nothin', but don't worry. I'll still be here and so will Cabalath. Just count to three slowly and then we'll be at Angel's Cove." He waited for her response, then told his brown to take them home.
When Cabalath came out of Between, all was still there and they were no longer over the land Niradene knew. They were above Angel's Cove Weyr and Cabalath hovered a moment while his rider checked on their passenger.
Z'dan
Niradene didn't respond she was too busy trying to calm her shaking body and so it bacme clod and dark she remembered what he said and started counting slowly finally it was warm again she wanted to see her new home but was still to scared focusing on the back of the rider trying to remain somewhat calm.
Niradene
Z'dan turned as much as the girl's grip would allow. "We're here, now. Ya' okay?" he asked. Between always scared everyone the first time and with her actions, he had determined her fear of the height, too. It wasn't every day that folk other than riders flew in the sky.
z'dan
"The sooner we get on the ground the bettwer." she replied
Niradene
Z'dan smiled, knowing that she had been okay with Between from her reactions. Complying with her request, he directed his brown to descend. "We'll be down before ya' know it," he assured her. Cabalath glided smoothly and when he neared the ground, he glided a bit more before touching down once, then twice, then the third time, he'd managed a run and slowed himself with his great wings before dropping down to a walk, then a stop and craning his head around to nose at his riders. {{We're down,}} the brown told Niradene softly. Z'dan smiled at his dragon's words. "Was that so bad?" he asked the girl.
Z'dan
Niradene flet alot of relief once the dragon had landed of course she was still shaking "Well it wasn't like i thought i'd be that for one thing. But i found out one thing that i never knew i have a fear of heights. No offense to you of course Cabalath." she said
Niradene
The brownrider smiled with a little shake of his head, green eyes still merry and calm. "Don't worry about the height thing. I've met a few riders that were afraid of being so high off the ground. Most of us only ever see heights like those when on a dragon. Then ya' got the ones that wanna go even higher," he told her, unstrapping himself. "Ya' ready to let yer feet touch the ground again?" he asked her.
Z'dan
"Really? That is very reassuring. Yes I am ready." she said slowly letting go of him and she felt hopeful at his words.
Niradene
"Yup," and with a chuckle, Z'dan warned Niradene that he was going to unstrap her, then did so, then he got down and stood below to look up at his dragon's Search. "Now, ya' don't gotta look down if ya' don't wanna. Just grab a hold of the straps and come down like a ladder. Don't worry. If ya' slip, I'll catch ya'. I promise." The dragon stayed still when it came Niradene's turn to get off. He didn't want her falling.
Z'dan
She was glad for the warning again as he unstrapped her. at the rider's words she could just alomst picture the scene of her falling of the dragon in embaressment. She nodded and tried to do as told hoping that she wouldn't slip off and embarress herself. Unfortuntely fate or luck perhaps needing a good laugh wasn't with her and she slipped.
Niradene
She'd been halfway down to the point that a fall would only result in a bruise, but as Z'dan had promised, he was there to catch her and prevent any damage. However awkward the catch may have looked, the brownrider had turned it into a gentle landing and set Niradene on her feet, but didn't let go until she seemed steady. "See? No worries," he said with a calm smile, not the least bit upset that she had fallen. It hadn't looked intentional to him, so it was a common fall.
Z'dan
Niradene couldn't believe she had slipped but at least Z'dan had kept his word. And soon she was on her feet blushing furiously. looking at the ground trying to regain some sort of dignity and composure from her embaressment wasn;t easy "Thansk for catching me." she said trying to shake off the embaressment and the sacredness she had felt just before the embaressment when she thought he might not catch her.
Niradene
"You're welcome, but don't worry about it. Just my duty." Noting that she seemed alright, save for the obvious look of being embarrassed, he moved to get her belongings off Cabalath's saddle straps and brought them to the ground, giving his brown a pat. Cabalath had other ideas and moved to nose at Niradene gently, hoping she was okay
Z'dan
Niradene after brinign down her blush felt the brown touch her with his nose and gave him a weak smile as she turned "Thanks Cabalath." she said touching the bronw's nose.
Niradene
Cabalath rumbled softly in answer.
Z'dan chuckled at his dragon's affection, then looked up at Zee's cheerful chitter before she darted off in fun. "Well, Niradene, shall we find the CandidateMaster and get you settled?" he asked his Search with a smile, noticing a bit of a blush yet, but not indicating that he had.
Z'dan<>Calabath
Niradene patted the borwn's muzzle one more time before responding "Yep I am ready, bye cabalath I hope i get a chance to see you again." she said
Niradene
The brown crooned softly in farewell, then watched them walk away before taking flight to his ledge to sun while he waited for His to finish.
"You'll see him again, for sure," Z'dan assured the girl, leading the way toward the barracks to look for the one in charge of the Candidates. He knew they didn't have a Master, but he was certain there'd be someone filling in the much needed position until someone came to fill it.
Z'dan
"i hope so." she said. After getting checked in she said good bye to the rider and made her way to the barracks
Niradene
