Month 2:
Niradene had settled pretty well into the life of candidacy she hadn't
made that many friends but she was so shy she had no idea how to
apporach them and she felt ackward they all seemed to know each other
and none had even noticed her yet. She decided to walk to the stables
her only happiness it seemed came from the runners that she took care
of. Just as she was approaching she spotted a familar brown dragon.
Sehh smiled remembering Cabalath the dragon who had brought her here,
she decided to say hi. "Hi cabalath remember me?" she asked not
knowing if Z'dan was nearby
Niradene
The little brown opened an eye at his name and looked around before finding who had called his name. With a croon at the girl, he got up and moved over to her. {{Hello, Niradene,}} he answered her, bending his dark muzzle down to give her a nuzzle. He remembered his Searches. Yes, he did. "Fleet!" then laughter followed, coming from somewhere near the stables. Yep, Z'dan was there, somewhere...
Z'dan<>Cabalath
Niradene gave the brown a big smile with delight in her eyes as the brown remembered her. she touched his muzzle lightly she heard Z'dan's voice as she remembered him saying something about a runner that was hard to handle. "I wonder if her needs any help." she said outloud.
Niradene
Cabalath crooned at the girl's touch, not minding his rider's shouting. It was playful shouts and so was the rider's mind, so he wasn't worried. Z'dan was needing help alright. Help with a bath as Fleet, sorrel coat still gleaming from not having dried just yet, stood over the water trough, nosing at the brownrider who he had knocked in there in play.
Z'dan<>Cabalath
"I am going to go check it out okay Cabalath I'll be back I promise." she said patting the brown the walking over the were she heard the calls and could help but laguh at the sight of Z'dan in the water trough the runner still wet. she approached the runner respectfully, holding out a hand to show she was friendly softly talking "Hey there your a beauty, my name is Niradene, you must be Fleet." she said.
Niradene
The brown crooned at Niradene's departure, then returned to his nap.
Z'dan went to get up again, Fleet nosing him back down and Zee helping him out as she flittered and trilled in play. The brownrider looked up at the voice, Fleet starting as well, but not leaving his post by the trough. The stallion looked at the girl closely, a bit of wariness in his features. Z'dan chuckled. "Hello, Niradene! Come to help me or Fleet?" he asked as Fleet stretched his neck toward the girl's hand, nostrils flaring as he took in her scent.
Z'dan<>Cabalath
"Both." she responded before truning her attention back to the stallion. She allowed the stallion to take in her scent gently stroking his nose "That's it good boy see I am not so bad I bet I smell alot better than he does." she said
Niradene
"He-ey!" Z'dan complained with a laugh, showing that he wasn't even remotely serious about the Candidate's comment. The runner snorted again, bobbing his head at the girl's touch before his ears flicked back and forth, then he nosed her hand again, finding no threat in her. Z'dan got up and sat on the edge of the trough as he watched the two interact. Oh, how Z'vik would love to see this. Too bad the bluerider had something else to do at the moment. That was why he was there to care for the stallion. "He ain't like that with many folk. Tried throwin' me the first time I jumped on his back," the rider said cheerily, Zee dropping down to perch on the young man's shoulder to watch as well.
Z'dan
Niradene gave a small chuckle at the rider's response. She smiled at the runner as he accepted her touch and scent. She continued her gentle touch lettting the stallion become more familiar with her "I am Niradene." she told the runner. "Well I am glad that I still have a way with runners." she said with a laugh
Niradene
Fleet snorted again, but was slowly relaxing as his ears twitched in interest toward the girl while keeping Z'dan's voice as well. The brownrider grinned. "His real master's a bluerider, but I help him take care of this handsome boy. He'd sure be happy to see you gettin' along with him, that's for sure." He chuckled and sat on the edge of the trough, Zee still splashing about within. "And I'd say ya' sure got a way with 'em if Fleet likes ya'," Z'dan added cheerily.
Z'dan<>Fleet
Niradene continued gently stroking the stallion, feeling him relax. "That is very nice of you to do that for him. I hope so not many riders like it one some else handles there runner or vise versa. I can tell this boy seems a loyal type. I like him too." she said
Niradene
Z'dan nodded with a smile, content to watch the interaction for a while. "Let's just say Fleet's a one person runner. He's up there in turns which is why he's lettin' others fuss with him, but Z'vik's the only one he never gives a lick of trouble to. I went and tried ridin' him once. Mistook him for a Weyr runner. Turned out, I's wrong and wound up on the ground a few times before he let me ride him, then he settled down. He's a good ole man, that's for sure."
Z'dan
"Is that so? I have met a few of those back at Telgar but if you treat them with respect and show them you aren't planning to take them away from there handlers they usually like you. I can tell and I hope he doesn't give me trouble because I know what to do with those who give me trouble." she said gazing between Fleet and Z'dan loving the interaction with the runner the connection she felt with them. She smiled and laughed "I can just picture that..I wouldn't dream of riding a one person runner unless the runner itself wannted me to. That he is, I can tell." she said
Niradene
Z'dan chuckled at Niradene's talk. She definitely liked the creatures. "I'd offer ya' a ride on him, but he just got a bath and ya' just met. Next time me or Z'vik's here, you can prob'ly get a ride," he said with a smile, honesty in his eyes, though one was more of a gray color. "How 'bout we settle him into his clean stall and give 'im some grub? I'm sure he's hungry after the workout I just gave him."
Fleet seemed content just to let the girl pet him, his head slowly dropping, his eyes remaining bright and aware, but obviously content.
Z'dan<>Fleet
"I'd like that." she said softly noticing the runner's contentedness with a smile. "That sounds like a good idea." she said
Niradene
Z'dan grinned and stood up, dripping wet. It seemed he was always getting wet one way or another. Zee flitted from her play in the water to perch on her Pet's shoulder, also dripping wet but seemingly content. Fleet raised his head at the rider's movements, not quickly, but calmly. He watched Z'dan's hand reach for his rope that was looped loosely over his back, then he stepped up to the brownrider quietly. "His stall's this way," Z'dan said, starting toward the low building that housed the Weyr's runners, not holding the stallion's rope. He knew to follow along quietly.
Z'dan
Niradene watched the rider and the flit with a smile. She followed keeping her hand still on the runner.
Niradene
"So, how ya' been adjustin', Niradene? Big difference her?" Z'dan asked, making conversation as the trio stepped within the stable. Fleet's coat had rippled at Niradene's touch, then settled as he moved comfortably between the two people. He knew his stall was coming and some food.
Z'dan
"It is a very big difference, it has taken me some time to get used to seeing a whole bunch of dragons around. But it aslo seems more lonelier in some ways though i didn't have much friends back were you found me it has been hard havin to come to all the runners and make friends with each one, they don't know me and i don't know them." she said
Niradene
Z'dan smiled as Fleet advanced from between the two and stepped into his stall to find his waiting feed, then proceeded to munch quietly, taking his time. The brownrider just watched a moment while the sorrel seemed to know only of his grain in front of him. "It's hard to go from next to no one to lots of folk. I did that before Cabalath found me. I know a bit how yer feelin'. Ya' made any friends with the other Candidates? I know I've seen a few of 'em 'round the stables doin' chores."
Z'dan
Niradene watched Fleet eating with a small smile "Really? No i haven't." she said with a small frown.
Niradene
Z'dan smiled in sympathy. She seemed like she just needed a little push. "Yup. Lemme get Zee to see if anyone's around right now. At least get ya' a friend yer age," he said cheerily. With a brief thought to his firelizard, the green suddenly darted off in search of one of those faces her Pet had asked her to look for.
Z'dan
---
Lawney had been raking a paddock when a little firelizard buzzed by
him. Both him and Sky watched a moment as the little green darted
off, then stopped and hovered, then returned to them, eyeing Lawney
skeptically. She chirped at him, then at Sky who returned a trill and
then she darted off again the way she had come. After a moment's
confusion, the former Raider understood his young blue and headed for
the sorrel stallion's stall to meet one of the riders he'd seen
about. He smiled in greeting at Z'dan and Niradene. "Hello," he said
simply.
Z'dan grinned. "Hello. I'm Z'dan of Cabalath and that's Zee. And this
is Niradene. I figured she needed someone to talk to that was another
Candidate. What do ya' say?" he introduced them cheerily.
Lawney studied Z'dan a moment, then Niradene. "I'm L-Lawney an' 'is
is S-Sky," he said with a smile. "Good t-ta meet ya'."
Lawnety<>Z'dan
Niradene was about to say it wsn't necessary but it was too late the flit was off she fel her cheeks heating up in annoyance. soon a male canidate appeared a little bit younger than her or so she guessed. She shot Z'dan a small glare that she doubted he noticed at the introduction. "er, good to meet you to Lawney and sky. Just to let you know this wasn't my idea." she said
Niradene
Z'dan grinned, having noticed the glare from the girl. There was only one way to get to know others and that was to start talking. Plus, once she Impressed, she'd be stuck in confinement for a while and it was always easier going in there knowing at least one other person. "All my idear," the brownrider said cheerily, leaning against the gate to Fleet's stall.
Lawney smiled at the other Candidate and couldn't help but notice that she was one of the pretty ones, at least to him, she was. "Ya' like critters t-too?" he asked Niradene, noting that Z'dan seemed content to watch over be involved for the moment. Kersid did that a lot. Just stood to the side and listened and watched.
Z'dan<>Lawney
Niradene noticed he was very cute at least to her and she didn't mind the stutter. She nodded "very much so, there is something about working with these runers that i..well i guess you might know what i am refering to." she said any creature was a blessing in her eyes they can understand you but they'd never hurt you.
Niradene
Lawney grinned, knowing exactly what Niradene meant. Creatures never made fun of you. They might 'laugh' at you on occasion, but they never meant ill. Just amusement and fun. The former Raider nodded. "Yeah. 'Ey're yer frien's when n-no'un else is." He looked at the stallion in the stall they stood near and smiled. That one had some fire in him. He'd seen Z'dan and the runner's owner on him. He knew.
Lawney
"So true you know exactly what i am saying, but that isn't to say we can't be more like them." she said gazing at Fleet for a moment then back at Lawney. "My specialty is the runners when it comes to creautres." she said
Niradene
Lawney nodded with a grin. "I-I'm g-good with the wild s-sorts. Like c-canines an' felines an' runners, t-too," he answered the stated question with his own specialty. He'd never known of specialties with specific crafts until he'd come to the Weyr, but that was okay. He just had to narrow his knowledge down to more specifics was all.
Z'dan smiled at the two Candidates as they conversed, slipping his own two marks in just because. "You two got me beat. I never specialized in critters. Just Tradin'," he said with a smile at a timely point in the younger ones' conversation.
Lawney<>Z'dan
Niradene nodded and laughed as the rider jumped in "Who would have guessed two canidates could beat a rider in specialties. " she said with a smile.
Niradene
Z'dan shrugged with a helpless smile. "You never know 'til you ask. That greenrider Annalyra knows a lot when it comes to general Weyr knowledge," he stated, having made it a point to try to get to know each of the other riders, especially since it was such a small Weyr.
Lawney smiled. "T-T'gal s-says s-she's the Weyrlin' Master," he input, having paid attention in his classes.
Z'dan<>Lawney
Niradene nodded and said "That's right she is so if we impress we are going to get to know her aren't we?"
Niradene
Lawney nodded with a grin. "Yeah. I s-sure hope s-so," he answered. He was very hopeful for a dragon of his own, so he could soar through the clouds again. That was fun. "I wanna fly high 'gain."
Lawney
Niradene mangaed to repress a shudder at the first time she had flow "Not me." she said she had found optu that she had a fear of heights she didn't know if she would impress or not if she did well then it would be awhile before she had to go back into the air and maybe her dragon if she found one would help her.
Niradene
Z'dan smiled at Niradene's comment. "You'll do fine. I swear by the First Egg you will," he said.
Lawney just looked at Niradene a moment. She didn't like flying? He loved it. "How c-come?" he finally asked, now just plain curious why she didn't like flying.
Z'dan<>Lawney
Niradene smiled at the reassurance "If you say so, well i am embaressed to say it.." she paushed the embaressment creeping up on her face "I'm afraid of heights." she admitted.
Niradene
Lawney grinned. Afraid of heights? That could be cured. He'd seen it done many a time. "'At c-can be c-cured," he replied, his knowing smile backing his words.
Lawney
Niradene had been afriad that he migh laugh at her but was relived "It can? are you sure? i'd love it if i could oversome my fears." she said sounding very hopeful
Niradene
Lawney nodded with a meaningful smile. "T-time an' patience c-can c-cure any thin'," he answered her matter of factly.
Z'dan smiled at the exchanges. Who better than to help Niradene better her fear of heights than another Candidate? They'd probably have the same time frames free in order to do so.
Z'dan<>Lawney
"Yeah but who'd take the time and patience to help me?" she said
Niradene
Lawney nodded. "S-sure!" he answered, glancing at Z'dan who smiled in approval.
"Well, there ya' go. Ya' two got a friend in the program and looks like ya' might be able to best your height deal," he said to the pair, directing his last comment to Niradene with a friendly smile to say that he wasn't putting her down or anything.
Z'dan<>Lawney
Niradene smiled and inclined her head "Thank you Z'dan and you too Lawney." she said
Niradene
Lawney smiled. "Y-Yer welcome."
Lawney
Niradene sudden;y realized the time "Oh I better get going it's almost time for lessons. Z'dan tell Cabalath i'll try to visit him again." she said
Niradene
Z'dan chuckled. "Better run along, then. I'll tell him. Don't worry none."
Lawney looked at the sun for the time, then looked to Niradene. He didn't like lessons because you had to write or read and he barely knew either one. His skill was passable, but at the lowest level. Kersid was much further than him, but that was because the younger Raider could copy things easily. "Which l-lessons're t-tanight?"he asked the other Candidate.
Lawney<>Z'dan
Niradene flashed the rider a smile. She thought about it but i didn't really matter she could read and write "don't know let's find out." she said grinning as she began to walk.
Niradene
Z'dan chuckled as he waved in parting to the two Candidates who were shortly followed by the blue firelizard of Lawney's.
Lawney followed Niradene's lead with a smile. He briefly wondered what Kersid would think of her, but he didn't care either way. He'd made a friend and she didn't seem to mind his speech problem.
Z'dan<>Lawney
Niradene was happy she'd made a new friend and found someone to help her with her fears things were definitly looking up.
Niradene
Niradene had settled pretty well into the life of candidacy she hadn't
