Month 2:
Velina walked slowly through the Weyr's halls. She'd belonged to a Weyr before...but it had been much bigger than this one. People hurrying everywhere, dragons and flits at nearly every step and yet here she'd barely met anyone in the passed few hours. She didn't mind though she'd never been good with people, though animals was another story. She'd done well with helping her foster father with Herdbeasts and every now and then would help the family raising the Herdbeasts and Runners, she vaguely remembered the young man who'd introduced her to
them...Angeeal? Her mind was so wrapped up in her thoughts she didn't realize she'd walked out towards the lake until the water lapped nearly to her knees. Sighing she looked down into the water, internally smiling at how clear it was...she only wished her own life was such.
A little brown appeared by her feet and looked up at her with a happy chirp. He playfully splashed in the shallow water, not paying attention to his pet that was running toward them. "Trig!" the boy shouted. "Come back!" Jaidan slid to a stop when he saw Velina. "Oh, I'm sorry," he apologized. "I hope Trig didn't bother you." The candidate smiled friendly. He hadn't been at the Weyr long, so he didn't know many people.
Velina looked down in shock and stepped back in surprise at the appearance of the little brown at her feet. She barely flinched when he splashed her and smiled softly as she watched him playing about before looking to the boy who appeared for him. "Hello..." she said softly, "no, he's not bothering me...he just surprised me is all," she said offering him a shy smile. I take it he's yours?" she asked as she turned her eyes back to the playing brown.
Trig continued to play happily. He ignored Jaidan totally, having more fun with Velina. At least the girl seemed to be watching him. Jaidan finally reached the lake and smiled at Velina. "Yeah, the little rascal likes to play and disappear on me. Normally he comes here to the lake. I'm glad he's not making a nuisance of himself." He turned to Velina. "I'm Jaidan and that's Trig. Are you new here too?"
Velina couldn't help but smile down at the little brown "He's pretty..." she said softly as she squatted down to watch him play. At Jaidan's question and introduction she smiled softly and looked up at him. "Yes, I am, my name's Velina...I arrived a few days ago." Turning her attention back to the flit she let out a deep sigh. "Are you ready for the Hatching?"
"Thank you," Jaidan said proudly. he had always been proud of Trig. Of course, that was why he'd got in that fight with another trader boy over the flit. Trig looked up at Velina. He stopped his playing to hope over to her and nudge her hand friendly. Jaidan shook his head a little. "Not really. I've been a Trader all my life, so this is a whole new experience for me."
Velina smiled as she looked down at Trig and gently stroked his head, gently scratching him behind his head nobs. "You're very welcome. I've only ever heard of flits but never saw them and he's very beautiful." At his statement of not really being ready she nodded in agreement. "I know the feeling. I grew up in a Weyr but I was never really around dragons and the like much so..." she shrugged. "Guess I'm just a bit nervous."
Trig started to croon happily and lean into her scratches. The brown was always willing to stand still when someone was petting him.
Jaidan chuckled a little. "Crazy firelizard," he laughed. He was surprised by her statement. "Didn't the riders have flits?" he asked curiiously. "And why weren't you around the dragons?" Jaidan hoped he wasn't prying. He just liked asking questions. He nodded a little. "I am too," he agreed. "I came here looking for my friend and ended up being Searched."

Velina shrugged as she continued to caress Trig. "I was very young when I was sent to a new Hold, I don't really remember the Weyr at all so," she sighed, trailing off, not wishing to bring up bad memories of her parents. She barely remembered them or their dragons, though the screams of her mother's green continued to plauge her at night. She shivered lightly before looking up t Jaidan. "Where were you Searched from? I was at Southern Hold before here."

Trig crooned happily as his eyes drifted shut. "Oh, I see," the young Trader said. He decided to drop the subject. It seemed like it upset Velina and he didn't want to be the cause of bad memories. Jaidan grinned a little at the memory of being searched. "I was searched while I was at Telgar Weyr. I asked for a transfer here when I heard that they needed candidates."
